I know this is not really new news to anyone but having just bought some Scorch ammo and then looking at my wallet I felt a need to complain.
Maybe I am off base here but it seems to me that T2 laser crystal ammo prices are off the charts. Best price I could find it costs 700 ISK/shot. That is double the Price of Void.
On my Absolution that runs to about 84,000 isk/minute of shooting .
So I figure time to Invent me some of that stuff. Whoops! Can't
Are these prices due to someone controlling the market on this item? Or are their build reqs just that out of line with other T2 ammo?
Either way could use a fix.

Look, supply and demand plays a large role in controlling prices. NOW, having said that lets realize EVE has nothing to do with real world economics nor playability. I am not trashing EVE, i love the game, i am simply stating a fact. When we purchase tech 2 equipment in eve, there is a base cost to produce the item and a price for putting them on the market that the seller absorbs. What you as the buyer absorbs is their greed. There is no lying about this Hump. With a rare few exceptions because the market is actually flooded with tech 2 suppliers, ALL tech 2 mods are seriously jacked in price. In no way, shape or form are tech 2 mods usually close to the price you are paying. If demand grows, then supply dwindles and the prices are jacked. If demand reduces or the mod is outdated by a tech 1 version, how come suppliers reduce prices
If you observe the market long enough, and deal with tech 2 selling as i have (and will no longer) you see its usually a bunch of BS. My most recent bulk sales, where i was buying tech II stuff from a producer and reselling, i was informed to keep the price at a certain level and not to reduce it to "bottom out the market" for that particular item.

Understood but why are T2 Laser Crystals quite literally double the cost of, say, T2 Blaster ammo? At a guess I would say there is a larger demand for blaster ammo than laser ammo these days so you would have a higher demand that should jack-up blaster ammo prices and nerf laser crystal prices.

Dunno what you are comparing, but a T2 crystal is around 1000 rounds of ammo.
Are you comparing the price of equal amounts of 'product'?
All that said, there should be more bpos for t2 ammo ,and to a lesser degree drones, out in the wild imo.

The problem with T2 large laser ammo is you're never gonna get to use all of it, I mean when was the last time your Aurora L lasted longer than your ship?
It gets expensive when you start carrying 30mil worth of ammo in your ship...

On the contrary; you are presuming that all markets operate with a) perfect competition b) perfect information. EvE T2 markets do work as per real-world economics -- if you assume it's operating using a government protected oligopoly. The barriers to entry (ie: buying a t2 bpo for billions) is so high that it's prohibitive. And just like in the real-world their downfall will be citizens complaining to the govt about price gouging.

Medium Scorch Crystal (1000 shots) = ~700,000 ISK Medium Aurora Crystal (1000 shots) = ~525,000 ISK Medium Void (1000 shots) = ~350,000 ISK Medium Spike (1000 shots) = ~350,000 ISK Medium Tremor (1000 shots) = ~330,000 ISK Medium Barrage (1000 shots) = ~600,000 ISK
See an imbalance there (except for Barrage....maybe just the region I checked...dunno)?

I have the BPO for this, and haven't had anyone invite me to a cartel or other price-fixing arrangement.
Build price doesn't seem to have much to do with sell price on T2 items. The chief issue for me as a builder/seller is the build time: 2 hours/crystal with max skills at PE 6.
But the ultimate deciding factor is of course what people are willing to pay for it. This has been going up since the Harbinger's release, at least in the regions I sell in.
I can't see a "fix" for this as long as EVE has a free-market economy.

Tech 2 crystal cost is high because supply is metered out by CCP in 1000 round units. The production of cyrstals is similar in shots to the production of all other ammo types[afaik], but the nessesity to put multipule crystals on your ship, each holding 1000 rounds apiece drives up demand.
When was the last time a tempest carried around 14,000 rounds of ammo?
It should be inventable, and so should all tech 2 ammos. ---------------------------------------- Thou Shalt "Pew Pew" |
