I'm doing a fun little ingame event with over 400 million ISK on prizes now thanks to some very nice sponsors! Yet!!! The participation rate is rather annoying! 400 million ISK is not enough to enter a few worthless humans into an event?!?!?
WHAT the HELL is NEEDED that YOU move your arse? (For everyone interested look up the events section and check the Exotic Dancer's Contest)

I asked my manager for a holiday so that I could attend, but I must say she was very unsympathetic.

So the very people you want to participate in your event are, as you have stated
Lazy asses and worthless humans. Due to the fact that you didn't get the enthusasim and turnout you were expecting.
Yea that really makes me wanna sign up for your event.

The #1 problem is the ammount of scams running.
People are just getting to the point of being afraid to trust anyone even though officially useing the forums to scam is not allowed (not in the rules section but i believe it is or was a sticky somewhere).
Also people are not really encouraged to take action after saying "400 million ISK is not enough to enter a few worthless humans into an event", basicly you broke most if not all creditability you may have had with the population there. An event is a open invitation at any times, it is not possible to "force the hand of the other player".
Asside of that there are tons of lottery's ontop (no i could not find your topic on the first 4 pages when i looked earlier the day, my reply is just delayed alot). Basic rule is that the generic group of people do not dig deep in the forum as they wont look further past the 4 first pages. To take an example, the 1st page in google is very important, 2nd may work still, 3rd may be pushing it and at the 4th your clicktrough starts dropping alot (i know this as i run several very large websites and keep checking these kind of statistics everyday).
Also officially even though you did not make a link it could be considered a cross post. This is because of the advertising of your post in events forum and nameing on how to find it, no need to make this an big issue though as there is quite a legit discussion in here but may be something to keep in mind as it could end in one or both topics locked up.
Asside of the issues i still wish you good luck getting it off the ground.

Hi Winterblink! Thanks for the nice feedback
But the question was kind of serious...how big would a price have to be so people actually get interested in the event?

Ok....lets see... Ya, scams seem to be a big problem, thats why I chose human passangers cause they don't have an ingame value. The Post always is on the first page on the events section, currently its the 5th post. If you did not find it earlier, you overlooked it. (The 1st New Eden Exotic Dancers's Contest! **MORE PRIZES!!!** ) <--title As for why I made this rather agressive post here...to get attention and get people to KNOW that there is an event (it involves more than just getting a few humans)... That is because the Events section in general is being read by quite FEW people and spreading the word is really a toughy... I already got some airtime on Eve Radio and BoB Radio...still the participation is rather mediocore. Thats why I am still looking for additional ways of promotion. I'm doing the event for fun, for everyone! Its a lot of work, actually more than I thought, still I stand to it and try to get it off the ground. So far...its going good, just too slow for my taste. Any other questions? I'll answer them as soon as I'm back home ;)

There are scams everywhere, and most of them advertise by mentioning huge amounts of money, such as your 400 million ISK, so people just get turned away and never read the thread.
Also, 400 million would be a nice sum for a newer character, but not many of them actually read the Events forum. So basically, advertising is a pain to do effectively, especially when the chat channels and forums of your intended audience are "no advertising" or "no cross-posting".
They should do something with those TV's floating in space, and also they should have some way for you to get a hold of CCP's events division and have THEM help you advertise your event. Maybe a news item or something. Maybe they have something like that.

Personally? After actually mustering up the good decency to read the event description (well, mostly), it doesn't excite me in the least. 400 million? All for me? Put that in big letters, the ship and kit list confuses me when I try to invest the minimum possible effort.
400 million with a good chance of winning (>10%), sure. 400 million with a lousy chance of winning (>=0.1%?), naaaaah. You'd have to wave at least two-three billion around for me to actually invest the time in that. And the slaves.
Good luck tho! -Cor There'd be a graphical sig here if I wasn't so lazy. |

I'm interested in unloading all my militants and janitors, and possibly even parting with some of my exotic dancers, but the details of the RP event for the final round seem quite unclear, which is holding me back.

From my experience in many MMORPGs... Games that have a lot of events, do so because they're utterly boring :P Eve keeps everyone busy, mainly due to the players and their own agendas.
I don't mean to sabotage your event, hopefully it will have a fair turn out. :) ---
