Would this forum be improved if, when the moderators temporarily sanctioned an account from posting here, they made the sanction public and the character names it applied to? I can forsee a lot less annoying alt posts.

I think that it is a good idea in premise, but unfortunately due to human nature it is rather subjective as to what is "trolling" and what is civilized disagreement.
For instance, if I say I believe someone is a tool, then that is trolling.
If I say I believe someone exhibits tool-like writing patterns, speech and general thought process, it may not really be trolling per se but a moderator can classify it as such.
I have several characters, some of which I highly value the anonymity they maintain.
I do not spam or troll with them, yet a simple mistake or an overstepping of a moderator will reveal them to everyone, which I wholeheartedly disagree with.
I do, however, think that a good start would be for alliances and corporations to keep their own databases of alt characters when they join, using login screens and such.
Periodically check the worst offenders versus your rosters.
Probably wouldn't work, due to the amount of legwork involved, but it's the only viable alternative I see.

actually all we need are more in-game bans for accounts whose characters post in here in an unacceptable manner.
As to the subjectivity of what is or isn't a troll, if you have doubts about whether your post will be seen as trolling or a flame, then it probably is.
More bans will make people think twice before behaving inappropriately on here.

Yes thats right I have an employment history dating back to 2003, I was the founder of a corp thats still running strong (J.H.E.N.R), I helped found the QDF and then FIX, I was in Battle Angels briefly (the pre-cursor of Outbreak), I was present for the birth of PURE.... and all this...

They should actually only allow one character per account and IP to post on the forums. Done. If two characters share either one account or one IP, you may only post with one of them, choice made every X period of time, say three months.
To make an alt post, you need both a second, paying account and a different IP. If you troll, at least you're paying $15 a month to do so.

Perhaps simply limiting the forums to characters over a month old, it would stop people creating alts simply to post and then delete them.

We are discussing Present, not Past. If you want medal you can write to McGreedy, I'm sure he will give you at least rank of centurion for the birth of Pure.
But thanks for admitting that in last 6+ months you have done nothing than post alot of crap on these forums.

I agree to this. Some already start to whine, if an alt states an opinion they don't like, even if the alt posts reasonable without flaming. Then the guessing starts, who's alt it is and usually people come to the conclusion that it's an alt of their most 'disliked' enemy, because who else would voice an opinion that they don't like ?
Some decades ago in the US, many people suspected a communist behind a person with a contrary opinion, in EVE people said 'BoB alt !' in the last weeks. Ban him, burn him, kill him ! How dares he to voice a contrary opinion in disguise. He is dodging the wrath of the mob, the lamer ! ------ No.1 reason to post with an alt: Avoiding that your main looks too silly. |

That is completely unrealistic and not well thought through at all tbh. What about someones room mate who plays eve? What about apartment building wide shared internet projects? What about any of the other 10 situations I can think of off the top of my head that would make it impossible if they limited posting to one character per one IP.
Only allowing one character to post per account would be cool but that could easily be bypassed by purchasing another account like many people do anyways so they can train skills on more than one character at once.
I agree something should be done about the alt posts to a point but what about some people that like to role play and want to have two completely different in game personas? I doubt they would ever make the changes because of issues such as this. |

Agreed. Maybe a checkbox somewhere big in the profile that is labeled "ignore all posts without content" or "ignore all non-relevant posts"
But then I never would have seen the OP, and never would have had the chance to post this. Also, no one would be able to read this post. The ripple effects of this might cause a tear in the space time continum. So you see, there would be a need for someone to 'balance' the power of this forum nerf, which would then require more programming. How to pwn

Disagree. I don't feel that the bull****ters should be the ones to post, and those who don't like to read racist irl comments should not be a part of these forums.
I do feel that ingame account bans would be a good way to stop people from trolling on 1-man corps. For instance, I have seen a certain alt from a corp called Euro Traders make the author of the battle report index give up, make references to Germany's history in regards to D2, make a post with 1 word(retard, I think it was), and another post that was moderated due to racist remarks.
How such a person can continue to post on these forums is beyond me, and frankly I do not feel it's me who should stop being here, but that person instead.

I said a long time ago that upon an account being started, and forum access assigned, you would be given a choice of which char you could post with on that account. Once set, it was set in stone, hence you would be stuck with that char, and only that char to post with.
If ofc you sold your main, and replace it with a new one, then there would be a mechanism in place to petition for a forum reset, but that would be as far the flexibility of the system would go.
Anyone who posts with an alt, for whatever reason needs forum banning, if you dont have the kahoonas to post with your main, then you should not be allowed to post at all.
Carlsberg dont make Eve Pilots, but if they did, i wouldnt be one of them.
