A few friends and I have recently started playing EVE. Very fun game so far. Well a few of them want to mine, and I have an Industrial ship and offered to haul their cargo to the nearest station from where they are mining so they could maximize their mining output. My question is what is a reasonable "cut" for my hauling services? Also is there a suggested cut for a defender who takes on NPCs who spawn?
Thanks in advance.

Edited by: Fenrec Deac on 23/03/2007 21:52:52 Its been a while but we used to pay our hauler's 10% of the overall ore . Depending on how much jumps the hauler has to go it can be more. The guards got nothing because they get the bounty/loot from the rats. But overall it depends on how much you /your friends think your dutys are worth for you/them.

Oh I realize that the vast majority of haulers are automated alts. And I actually like the capitalistic "what the market will pay" approach in this game, it definitely appeals to the pop-economist in me, I was just looking for a good starting place. This will all be moot in a few weeks anyway as I get more combat oriented and they get their own industrial ships and storage lockers. This is like my "part time job" until I get set up better in other fields.
Thanks for teh prompt answer though. :)

To tell you the truth, back when I was a miner we would split everything based on time spent. Each 15 minutes spent mining or hauling or protecting counted as 1 point. For example ( a simple one ):
1 Miner spent 1 hour = 4 points. 1 Miner spent 30 minutes = 2 points. 1 Hauler spent 1 hour = 4 points.
10 points total so miner #1 would get 40% of the take, miner #2 would get 20% and the hauler would recieve 40%. Usually any remainder went to gang leader.
Have fun :)

10% for the hauler is the norm in my corp

In my corp, 10% is the norm for within-system high sec hauling
If in low sec or if jumps are required, the rate increases, but there are no "usual" rates as every circumstance is different

We usually just divide equally between active accounts.
Hauler(s)/ratter(s) are needed for a succesfull mining op. So we don't cut them out of their share (or part of their share). Less bookkeeping, less calculations, less headaches, less whining

Equal split on everything or you can mine alone.
If you have 3 accounts mining and I haul for you, thats 4 accounts total so I expect 1/4 of the proceeds.
If I mine and you haul, we split it 50/50.
As far as rat bounties etc, you send the guards in first to tank the rats, they dont kill the rats so there are no bounties, they are there to tank the rats indefinitely and guard the op from hostiles.
If theres 10 people in the op, miners haulers guards, then the ore gets split 10 ways, or sell the ore to corp and pay everybody %10.
Note, haulers shouldn't be slacking off, if the cans are empty they should jump into something that can mine and come back with hauler when the can is full, and normally you only need 1 guard to watch local and tank the rats.
