Hey all,
I'm just coming back from a 7 month deployment and I'm really trying to get back into the game again, trying to get some PvP under my belt, but it's obvious that EVE PvP is far more complicated than any other game's PvP out there.
Currently, I am flying a CNR for level 4 mission running, which is a decent ship for it, and the missions are usually easy enough to handle, but painfully boring.
Just about all of my SP (23+ mil) are geared towards Caldari ships, but as I am looking more and more into the game, it seems that Caldari non-ECM ships suck for PvP.
I understand there's no 'perfect' ship, but it seems that the Caldari ships are always a bit lacking, and missile PvP warfare seems under par.
I was considering changing gears and start training for an Abaddon, or Maelstrom... especially considering how in fleet fights most ships armor tank... but is it worth it to completely change my skill training? I just don't want to train for months towards something I think is going to be fun, and then come to find it is a huge disappointment.
Is it possible to fly solo/group PvP in a fully fitted Caldari ship and be successful, or don't even bother trying?
Also, is it worth it to invest in a Tengu for PvP, or just go the 'cheaper' route and fly an Abaddon or other ship? |

If you have the skills you will want to start with the Drake. It is the Number 1 most used PvP Battlecruiser followed shortly by the Hurricane.
There is the Nano Drake for Small Gangs, HAM Drake for Brawling and the Buffer Fleet Drake for large Fleets / Gangs.
Abbadon and Artillery Maelstrom are the staple Fleet Battleships and the Hurricane is your small gang ship of choice.
Those 4 are a good beginning.

Torps also seem to do a lot of damage, but I'm thinking that most fleet or solo battles are more often long range fights... and so you would never get in torp range even if you've got all level 5 skills.
This is me mostly guessing... I have very little PvP experience. |

Caldari are at least equal to Amarr in terms of PvP, especially when it comes to small-scale one. 2008, CCP Zulu(park): "command ships are fine as is" 2011, CCP Greyscale: "is the Nighthawk actually underpowered?" Nice progress, guys. |

Drake is one of most used, specially nano Drake will give you opportunity to GTFO if necessary. Some possible fits: http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/53101-Nano-Drake-done-right.html http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/42011-Basic-pvp-drake.html
HAM drake with short point is also good brawler but no GTFO ability. Something like this: http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/25222-BUFFER-tank-drake-with-f-ck-you-dps.html
Tengu also had nice PvP abilities, but definitely not meant for begginers. For instance: http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/56133-Tengu-Cheap-100mn-buffer-HML.html
ECM ships are always wanted and one of best assets in gangs, Blackbird extremely cheap and expendable, and can jam targets from 100km, then Falcon and Scorpion.
There is much ships to pvp in as Caldari. |

Having a small amount of PvP experience, the best ships are the ones that are cheap and versatile. Most notably the hurricane BC (as previously mentioned) is a fantastic PvP ship. If fitted with a decent passive armor tank, which has a good deal of EHP and resists. I would personally say that is a good ship to start with. Obviously suggestions on other ships and fits are warmly welcomed. As same other ship types and fits would be nice I can fly all tier 2 BC along with all tier 3 Caldari BS and up to Megathrone and Apocalypse. Help would be nice thank you :P |

As other have pointed out the drake is a possibility. I think i would recomend cross-training to Minmatar since you already have shield skills. Then again, my pvp experience is quite limited |

It really depends on the fleets you are going to fly with, find a corp/alliance and train what they fly and actually use. |

I would say fly whatever you feel like flying. The beauty of EVE is that there is NO perfect ship really. I personally fly Amarr armor ships, I chose to do this because I like using lasers and having a huge buffer tank to brawl with. Just my style but it works. When my corp runs shield fleets I simply meta 4 module up and make due with what i can until my cross training gets there. I am not gonna be the pwnmobile shield missile drake atm but who cares. Still can have a good time. Besides you could be max skilled in every ship/module/weapon/tank and still get popped. Hope this helps.
If you ever have questions hit me up in game. |
