Greetings!
IÆm doing a little survey on peopleÆs opinions on Human Genetic Engineering and its potential to marginalize other people (for an exploratory essay on the same topic). Discussion is allowed since the survey is not that academic, it is more exploratory and truth seeking oriented.
For those that want to read up on some information before they respond:

1. Are you concerned with the possible impact of Human Genetic Engineering and its ability to marginalize genetically ôinferiorö people? Nope, not at all.
2. Should Human Genetic Engineering be regulated around the word? Yes. Should be used wisly, such as preventing cases such as downs syndrome, or any other genetic dieases, and maybe immune systems should be too. No super humans tho.
3. Do you believe global regulation is possible/ will ever be possible? Depends, Currently? No, They can't even enforce Human rights(even in the countrys that claim human rights are important), let alone this. With in a Global federal goverment? Yes, but thats Along ways off.
4. Do you feel threatened by Human Genetic Engineering? Nope. If used maturely, it could enable people(who are retarted) to live full natural lives and such.. Your signature exceeds the maximum allowed filesize of 24000 bytes -Kreul Intentions ([email protected])

1: yes, who knows which genes will prove usefull in 500k years. This does not only relate to human genetic engineering though.
2: yes. Otherwise you can bet your life that someone will want a kid that has whiskars/gills/9 nipples when or if we get to that technological level
3: no, the corporations/people with the most money will decide as always
4: not personally, does not matter within my lifespan

1. Yes. Inevitably, money = power, and those who have a comfortable income will be able to pay to engineer themselves into a more comfortable life. The 'have-nots' will not, and a huge divide will appear in society.
2. Oh my God yes.
3. If everyone concerned decides not to desperately grab for personal gain/glory, then there's no reason an international body can't not only regulate the topic, but also stimulate cross-border cooperation, financial assistance and public awareness.
4. Not right now because it doesn't exist. Genetic modification to improve the overall human race (i.e: solving defective genes that cause brith defects, etc) is probably a good thing (I still have moral issues with it, as it obviously won't stop there), but inevitably an elite will reserve it for themselves and deny it others (and charge disgusting sums), because human beings are selfish and petty. No one person/group of people should have the ability to control healthcare like that, and I honestly think that it'd be better for no one to have it than for a select group of people who don't deserve it.
And no i'm not Christian, or any other religion.

Edited by: Sheriff Jones on 28/03/2007 05:53:19 1. Are you concerned with the possible impact of Human Genetic Engineering and its ability to marginalize genetically ôinferiorö people? Not as such. If we can remove "bad seeds" from the genepool, it's cool. But witchhunt, no thanks.
2. Should Human Genetic Engineering be regulated around the word? Yes. We don't want any REALLY "bad guys" making super genomes
3. Do you believe global regulation is possible/ will ever be possible? With global and united goverment, yes. As well as other stuff, like drugs and crime and..no wait...i mean no
4. Do you feel threatened by Human Genetic Engineering? Nope. Bring on the mutants
5. Do you know how to answer yes or no? I doubt it.

1. No, it won't have any more effect then current wealth/education advantages.
2. No, this only leads to only the bad people getting ahead.
3. No, not in the next 100 years at least.
4. No, not at all. Cloned organs to keep me alive forever? Great!
