Edited by: Deschenus Maximus on 27/03/2007 02:45:38 All the "caldari suck at PvP" threads I'm seeing lately made me think as to why caldari suffer in that area (I disagree that they suck. I've used Caldari ships in PvP quite often and they can be quite effective when used right). Mostly, its a question of shield tanking being compromised by the need for mobility and countermobility mods (MWDs, ABs, scrams, webs) and injectors, which are all midslot items.
My idea is to rejig what goes where as far as mods are concerned, following these guidelines:
-All offensive modules (weapons) go in high slots -All active modules go in midslots -All passive modules go in lowslots
In conjunction with this, the number of slots assigned to each ship would need to be looked at (Amarr ship would need at least one more mid, and one less low), and some modules may need to go from active to passive (damage controls for example).
This could also be an opportunity to further differentiate the races (for example, Amarr would be passive armor tankers and Gallente active tankers, with the slot layouts reflecting this).
Example setups:
Harbinger:
Highs (8): 7x HP II
Mids (now 5): MAR II, AB II, Web, Scram, Cap injector
Lows (now 5): DCU (now a passive mod) 2x HS II 2x EANM II
Drake: Highs (8): 7x HML 1x Med Nos
Mids (now 7): AB, Web, scram, cap injector, LSB, 2x invul fled
Lows (now 3): 2x BCU 1x SBA/LSE/SPR
Just another "outside the box" idea.

Agreed, I've been thinking this for ages myself.

I'm no guru on PvP, fittings or stuff related to it. But adding one extra mid slot to all Caldari ships should make all the cry babies to stay silent.

Edited by: Christopher Dalran on 27/03/2007 14:48:05 I dont count solo pvp and yes caldari are prety bad at solo pvp (tank in the mids so very little room for ew [and the web/scram that is REQUIRED for solo pvp]).
Caldari absolutly excell at fleet combat, get enough people in a gang and you have more than enough slots between everyone to fit everything you could possible need. Combine that with the fact that shield tanks are superior to armor tanks in regards to the most damage mitigation. Even though shield tanks cannot sustain themselves over armor tanks the freedom to fit damage mods (cant fit many on the armor tank because of slot confliction with the tank) allows them to kill their targets faster before their tank runs out.
Caldari gangs can soak up more damage and deal more damage in a shorter ammount of time than a gang made from any other race.
Just my oppinion on the matter, i still prefer gallente ships for small gang raids but caldari look just as deadly if i would adjust my tactics slightly.
IMHO adding extra mid slots to caldari ships would make them better at solo pvp but would completly make them way too powerful in gangs. CCP has never focused on solo pvp and i do not think they should ever prioritize balancing for solo actions over groups. ------------------------------- C.D's Formula for success ------------------------------- Credit Card = Game Time Card Gametime Card = ISK Therefore Credit Card = ISK.

If they removed a low and gave an extra mid on the following ships:
- raven - rokh - moa - kestrel - merlin - caracal
caldari would see alot more pvp.

That's why they should make it active=mid passive=low. This would allow active tanking in mid slots with damage mods in low for Armor as well as shield tanks and would allow shield tanking with passive resists on ships with limited mids. Keep in mind that shield boost amplifiers and shield extenders would be low slot modules.

I think this may kill some of the diversity of the game to be honest. It would just make it that bit closer to everyone flying the same ship with the same gun and same tank.

Why do you think so?
