I would like to do some 0.0 mining, but I will be doing this solo. I know, bad idea. But I was wondering if it is even possible to work. I would like to use a REALLY cheap ship, maybe a frigate with a mining bonus. That way, I will be forced to make a drop of runs often so I don't lose everthing. And just one run should pay for that silly frigate. So, any tips on how to do this?

Pretty much as you've described: buy frigate, fly to 0.0, mine repeatedly. Don't forget you'll need a place to refine in, so choose a region with NPC stations in. Then you have to get your high-end minerals back to Empire to sell.

Edited by: Stefx on 27/03/2007 15:56:11 You said in another thread you're a 3 week old player. The odds are you wouldn't survive more than a few minutes in 0.0. You'll get podded, you'll be frustrated. You'll lose time and money. Don't think you can easily evade attacks. You'll get warp-jammed and webified.
If you like mining, here are my suggestions: Find the ultimate miner's guide (it's in the stickies in the newbie forum section), the thread "Ultimate Guide Collection". Read it, cherish it and read it again. Make it your bible. You'll starting mining roids in high sec with a small ship, making 20k per run. You'll get a better one and make 50k per run. Eventually you'll get to ships that can make you a few million isk per hour (that's where I am in my Battleship Domi miner). Also, you'll probably join a corp someday. Find one that has a focus on mining if that's your main interest (I managed to find a corp focused on mining & production and I love it so far)

It's called Ninja Mining and is largely a lost art these days. Used to be when there were fewer people on you could sneak a hauler in with some secure cans and anchor them in some nice backwater system. You'd jet in later with a nimble frigate miner and fill your cargo then jet to your secure can area and unload. If anyone popped in to local just safe spot your miner. If NPCs hit the belt warp away to safespot fast as well or try another belt. Rinse and repeat till all the cans were full then get your hauler to bring them back. The most dangerous parts of course are the parts with the hauler but it could be done.
Now however most of this is not really doable. The gate camps are far more dangerous than they once were with more people and warp disruptor bubbles and so on. Getting a hauler through is very difficult if not impossible. There are also a lot more people roaming in 0.0 areas these days so you are more likely to get your op disrupted. With probes they can find you and your sec cans and may well take the time to go pop those sec cans. You may be safe enough if you constantly warp around or fit a cloak but you will probably lose all those cans.
If you do not use a hauler and just ninja in the frig and return when your hold is full you will make nowhere near good money compared to mining pretty much anything in hi sec. All those jumps to and from a station will kill your profit not to mention increasing the risks you will get caught and popped dramatically.
All-in-all I would advise against it but up to you. Some Alliances will let you mine or rat in their space for a fee. Might be something to look into if you are interested to see if it is worthwhile.

True. So if you are hiding, don't hide next to your cans.

I thought that had been changed? I recall reading about some 0.0 Alliance peeps who took over some space and they would run around finding sec cans and popping them. Maybe they just meant what they could find in the belts. Haven't tried to probe for a can myself but now that you mention it when probing in Exploration I occasionally select all possible signatures and do not recall seeing any cans on there. Given the hundreds that are in every system I imagine I would have noticed...oh well.
Still think it is a bad idea though
