Ok, so I'm toying with the idea of becoming a pirate (eventually). I know there are pvp corps out there and stuff, but anyway. I have a few questions.
1) Does killing players (evein in 0.0) ruin your security status and other faction status? 2) Does the bounty for PCs auto increase with the more players they kill? 3) What are the benefits besides for pure fun and enjoyment. Does pirating earn ISK? Or do you still need to do missions and stuff? 4) anything I'm missing I would like info about. I'm kinda new, so plz indulge me in being a newbie. :)

Killing people in noob corps damages status, killing in 0.0 does nothing for sec status.

No. Well yes if each players puts a bounty on :P

It can earn isk, but it's not a steady income, sometimes it's dry, infact it's often dry.

1 - Killing players in losec (and hisec I guess) does lower your sec rating. Killing pods lowers it extremely fast, but if you rat a little between whiles you can keep it static. You can kill ships and pods in 0.0 without a security status hit.
2 - Bounties on players are added by other players. Unfortunately once the bounty reaches a certain level, some pirates are liable to just kill themselves with an alt and collect their own bounty, which is a little lame, but hey.
3 - Pirating doesn't directly earn isk, but most pirates do make some money off the loot their prey drops. Some lucky pirates can get very rich very fast by finding and popping a mission runner with a full T2/faction/deadspace/officer/etc fit, which they can then sell on.
4 - Joining a corp that already has good experience in pirating will always teach you more than the forums will. I suggest Privateers.

A player has to put a bounty on your head. 3) This is a tough question. It really depends on what you are killing. I mean if you are lucky you can ransom a freighter for about 500m. On the other hand you always risk to lose your ship especially to roaming gangs or bait/login/whatever traps.

Well, to be honest. I need money myself hehe. And I don't really have a lot of SP to really justify doing anything now as far as pirating. I have decent skills to equip and use a good amount of stuff. I think my problem is that I just don't have the money to afford what I really actually want so I can pound out missions faster.
Starting out is one of the hardest part of the game. However, the more I play (really the more SP I get) the easier life becomes and the more fun I have.
On the other hand, arn't there mercs out there that hunt down the pirates with bounties? Do you ever get an increase in sec lev if you kill somebody who is hated by Concord while in condor space?

Some corps will accept aspiring pirates with minimal skills, Darkness Inc. for one. I believe the requirement for membership is that you be able to mount a warp scrambler, something that can be managed by a brand new character after about an hours worth of training.
While Darkness Inc. won't satisfy an accomplished pirate (most likely) for the aspiring pirate it is a nice place to start, and it is a great group of people to boot!
If you are interested, convo Darcy Killar ingame, then come join the fun and enjoy pirating right now rather than "when you have enough SP", you have that already!

Really all you need to get started is a Micro Warp Drive a scrambler and a webber.
There is a pretty good link that gives you a good idea on pirating and some useful tactics. http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=295125
Also I think R.U.S.T. is recruiting still and would be a good start for you. http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=482982
But you can easly fly a frigate set up for pvp for around 500k isk. Your signature exceeds the maximum allowed filesize of 24000 bytes -Hango ([email protected]) |
