Friggz	Posted - 2007.03.28 02:23:00 - [5] Technically a carebear is someone who believes its 'wrong' to engage in non-consentual pvp, that the point of MMOs or Eve in general should be cooperation and that any PvP thats not consultual is the same thing as griefing. They believe someone should be able to completely avoid all forms on pvp if they so choose. People who aren't carebears believe non-consentual pvp is important even if they don't engage in it themselves. Anti-pirates are never carebears because if it wasn't for piracy they'd have nothing to do! In eve the term is overused to the point where it loses all meaning. It can mean basicly anyone who doesn't completely dedicate themselves to PvP (And even people that do use it to insult eachother), sort of like how people call other people noobs even if the other person is obviously experianced.

A person who enjoys industry, mission running, ratting, and in general avoids pvp. 2) The real one. A person who blames all of his troubles on the game rules instead of adapting. Sadly I qualify as a partial Carebear, as in #1 for my main due to avoiding low sec and PVP, but for one simple reason I'm flying something I can't afford to lose. But that doesn't mean I don't mind a bit of PVP now and than, and if I ever do get poped im not going to complain I congraduate them, unless it was a gatecamp in which I be thinking along the lines "dam I was screwed, better come back in a reaper to get my revenge". The main problem that people have with Carebear's are the Second kind, who avoid PVP and hate non-consenual battle and think it should be looked down upon or taken out. And want a sure fire way to avoid it and not have a gimped set up. Though this lends neatly into the above description about thinking that all non-consentual pvp is griefing I posted some time ago that there is no non-consentual PVP in EVE. Everything you can do to get shot at comes with a nice little concent form. Anyway, it's a displacment issue. Some folks understand that EVE is a game and the events that transpire there have no relavance what so ever to anyone anywhere outside the game. Some people think that anything you do in a game reflects your sociopathic RL tendencies. They also feel that the time they spent earning in game items gives those imaginary things some kind of value which makes it a crime to take them away. They can't see the truth There is no spoon, but there is an excelently rendered explosion when it goes boom.

The reason I still play this game is because I have learned to tell myself that by clicking "I accept" to the EULA terms when installing the game, I am consenting to any PVP that will happen in the game. So: Carebear = someone who opposes all PVP except Consentual PVP. Something I am, but EVE is too awesome a game to quit because of some gankers.

I enjoy PvP, as it is part of the game. What I don't like are whinypiratebears who are all smack talk when they blow up your indy while they fly a BS, and then say NO FAIR! when you and some corp mates come back for a little "animated discussion". LOL I enjoy mining and creating things, I enjoy ratting, I enjoy some mission running (ok, running cargo from A->B just isn't my thing), and I enjoy PvP to an extent. I think I'm one of the few carebears who has actively went out into PvP, lost 8 or 9 Prophecies, and after about, oh, 5 minutes of saying "expletive delted! Why didn't I expletive deleted fit this module on instead? Stupid expletive deleted! Stupid!", I turn around, buy another, outfit it, insure it, and back into the fray. I guess thats why my corp tried to put me on the 12 step Prophecy Program.... hrmmmmm. Oh well. Its all in good fun. If you don't like PvP, then mine in empire in a decked out Indy with 20-40km3 cargo hold. No one can touch you without getting concorded, no one can steal from the inside of your hull. Otherwise... you take a risk. Flat and simple. THAT, my friends, is what makes this game FANTASTIC. Realism (of a sort) in action.
