Some of you may heard of this. It's a hyper realistic space flight simulator, similar to your MS flight sims, except it's for space flight, and it's free!
It's pretty limitless in terms of what you can do in the solar system, and after a while of trying to fly the delta glider (theoretical space-plane design) to the moon, you'll be begging for a right click>"warp to 0m" option Took me ours even to figure out how to put a space shuttle into orbit without the orbit rapidly decaying an the whole vessel coming plummeting down into the Atlantic.

Comprehensive collection of 3rd part downloads: http://www.orbithangar.com/ Must have mods (from orbit hangar): (some of these may be included in the 2006 addition, I have the 2005)
Earth and moon hi res textures
Sound mod (surprisingly, it adds sound to the program )

Edited by: The Pointless on 28/03/2007 19:47:24 I've tried this before: frankly it's in dire need of a manual the size of an entire volume of Encyclopedia Britannica.

Probably. I've lost count of the many times I've successfully got a shuttle into orbit, only to find myself out of fuel.

Thats kinda the point. You use up (almost) all your fuel getting into orbit. This is true for all space craft these days.

Yeah, but I use up all the fuel on a straight incline, meaning there's nothing bar the weak pull of Earth's gravity to stop me drifting off into space. Or into the moon. Yeah. I... suck and blow at Orbiter.

That would be the problem, as gravity acts towards the earth (therefore directly opposing your direction of travel), one reason why the space shuttle rolls and carries on at an incline shortly after launch.
Also, I've updated the first post with the OrbiterSound download page, which also features a great addon.

Pretty sure that the shuttle doesn't have enough fuel for escape velocity... You'd just fall back to earth... --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |
