OMG!! and FX gfx card, they suck. I used to have one, i'm not being evil.
You can download the demo of supcom and give it a go, I'm pretty sure your GFX card will weep like a monkey, but it's worth a go

Supreme commander is designed to run on multiple core processors so that's where you'll get your biggest performance boost.
Graphics wise it's not so intense although here is somthing I found out that can help your fps alot.
Once the game loads and you're on the main menu open the console (it's the @ symbol on my PC, for some people it's the ` symbol - upper left corner of your keyboard). In there type in the following... ren_bloom ren_reflection ren_shadows ren_decals
*To exit the console press the escape key then the @ symbol again.
I noticed a very nice perfomance boost when these were disabled although you need to do this everytime the game loads.

Yeah, your have a Geforce 5xxx series, those simply weren't good videocards, especially for DirectX 9 games. Try the demo, and if you like it (it'll just run), it's about time for an upgrade of your 4-year-old computer. SupCom, like TA, will destroy computers now and 2 years down the road, so don't skimp.

I'd say:
Minimum to be playable (10 FPS at game start, 2-3 FPS in heavy battles, with lower details and ren_decals, etc): 768MB RAM 2Ghz Pentium 4 9800 Pro or better graphics card
Minimum to be reasonable speed (20-30 FPS with ren_decals, etc): 1GB RAM 2Ghz Core 2 Duo GeForce 6600 GT or better
Minimum to play at full speed without ren_decals, etc: 2GB RAM 2.5Ghz Core 2 Quad GeForce 7950 or better

Apple computers are great, but they're mid-range at best when it comes to gaming. They won't last you more than two years.

Not a chance, i've just bought a 8800 GTS 640Mb because of the problems i was having with my 6600GT 512Mb card running Supreme Commader, its a great game but when your in a huge battle things get badly laggy. A FX card will never cut it.

Well ive currently go :
Athlon 3200+ 1gb Cosair Ram 9800Pro
Runs on low settings at 25-30 fps most of the time, until you start getting the really big battles or using stuff like the T3 radar which shows pretty much everything on smaller maps and therefor lags me out. Some missions are also a problem (nearer the end)
