I'm somewhat new (1,2 mill sp, not really specialized in anything yet, 300k in learning, 200k missiles) and my friend convinved me to come back to play the game since we both got bored of Wow.
He has a Rokh (but not alot of SP) and annother friend of ours has a Raven. I'm not looking for annother battleship. Our primary objective will be PvP once we get our training somewhat settled (~3-4 mill SP) I'd like to be able to solo SOMEthing, not everything ofcourse :)
I've been looking at interceptors, assault ships and covert ops (really like the manticore), but i really have no expirience in PvP to make an accurate judgement about what to pick. As you can see from these 3 categories, yes i'd prefer a smaller ship. I'd prefer missiles but if they are much worse then whatever.
Harpy? Manticore? Crow?
Thanks for any input.

Most of your PvP abilities will be determined by your RL skills and not your SPs. Some SPs are required though. Just don't ever try the manticore. It's a cool sounding ship , but it's total crap. Yes I know there are some people that claim otherwise, but those will be very rare cases.

If you are new to PvP, do not go for T2 ships until you are fully confident in flying their T1 counterparts. T2 ships cannot be fully insured, so you will lose a lot of money if you lose one. True Covert Ops (not Stealth Bombers as they are currently very ineffective) are expensive when fitted with the Cloak, but very handy for scouting and finding targets, and unless you get very unlucky, do not tend to die.
Blackbirds are also very effective in small gangs due to their abilities to jam enemy ships' locks, hence why people tend to target them first in those gangs! Caracals fitted with Assault Launchers make for superb anti-Interceptor ships and are fairly cheap to replace if you insure them.

If setup just for this purpose it can do 2500 alpha... just as a note.
For a beginer either the crows (set orbit to 12km and spew missile/rockets depending on skills), Or Harpy (because it is more forgiving) can both be good.
If your gona PvP with 2 BS's though the crow may be more appriciated

may i suggest a merlin for a start?
burn through some of them while tackling until you feel confident to burn some AFs/ceptors.

caldari are pretty straightforward tbh, something like
merlin - caracal - crow - ferrox - drake - raven
would do you fine. Crow is one of the best interceptors so I would use that with your 2 mates in bs for the pvp side of things.

I guess i'll go ahead and suggest you use the elephant in the room, get a destroyer and pop drones and frigates for your gang. Destoyers are prety straightforward in their use and from personal experience can protect against frigs and drones better than larger ships. This will allow your 2 battleships to focus completly on larger ships and use torps and what not. Destroyers are paper thin and will get wasted by anything bigger than a frigate but they perform their intended purpose admirably and their low cost makes them easily replaceable.
3-4 mill sp might be fairly low for battleships use, generally its difficult to run a battleship well without having all the support skills very high. If they focued only on what they need for a battleships then they may very well have eveything they need but i dont know that so you will have to decide for yourself.
Later you might want to get that manticore you like, I fly cov ops and you can actually pvp much better with a cov ops and several cruisers as opposed to camping gates in battleships if the cov ops pilot flys around looking for targets ahead of the group (keep them in a neighboring system untill you find a target) and set up a warp in spot that will land them right on top of the target (bumping them all over the place at the same time). Work on your scanning skills and you'll also soon be able to catch every single person that decides to be lame and logoff (some can still escape by logging in another char on the same account but thats an exploit and reporting them will cause much more loss than losing the ship).
HAC's are good things to fly aswell but i would avoid using them untill you can PVP very well in the t1 version. BC's can take out a HAC no problem if they manage to catch you alone. TBH i would suggest waiting untill someone in your corp can manufacture HAC's through invention as that will save you TONS of cash. HAC's actually dont cost anything near what people charge and the limited number of bp's is the only thing keeping prices high.
AF's and interceptors are a good t2 ship to go for, they are very cheap (less than cruisers) so you can purchase them off the market no problem. AF packs are great against larger ships as they can mitigate quite a bit of damage from large guns and an interceptor would be a GREAT ship to use to snag ships at gates and hold them while your buddies in battleships take time to lock.
The best advice i can give you when engaging in pvp is KEEP COSTS LOW, you will not make very much pirating because of murphys law. Everything halfway decent alwayse seems to explode with the ship so you have 2 options, blow up everyone for fun or try and ransom them. ------------------------------- C.D's Formula for success ------------------------------- Credit Card = Game Time Card Gametime Card = ISK Therefore Credit Card = ISK.

Thanks very much for that input.. i think i'll stick to my original plan of going for the Crow first, and see from there :)
