I have to admit that I was in two minds on if I should post this or not and then thought, wtf, just do it, so here it is.
There are a few things that made me go "wtf" when I first started playing some 15 or so months ago and tbh they still make me wonder what's going on in the design team of ccp. A small example list of things that make little sense in a "space" game:
Ships that only go "forward" and appear to "fly" - reminds me constantly of the "Star Trekkin'" song Apparently liquid space that slows your ship to a standstill with no requirement to fire reverse thrusters - I can understand maximum safe speeds due to space dust, but there isnt that much dust to slow your ship Camera drones that have limits to how they can rotate in "free space" Docking bays where the ships hover an impressive distance from anything with no means to enter/exit
These are by no means game breaking, and I'm not saying I don't enjoy the game, cos' I do, but these are a constant itch that I have no way to scratch whenever I play. I keep getting the feeling that EVE is actually a giant water filled universe as everything seems to indicate an impressive spatial viscosity.
Anywho, so what are folks thoughts on this?

I don't get this one. Engines are in the back and pushes the ship forward. Seems natural enough.

I'll never understand why people whine about this one. It's just the way they programmed the engine. It's such a minor detail. You're panning a camera, get over it.
I suppose some people would prefer it if they could look at their ship upside down and have to spend an extra bunch of time dealing with what full camera controls would be like.

Some things take a lot of server or local client resources and do not add, or actually detract from gameplay.

From a Newtonian physics point of view, Eve is highly unrealitic
However, Elite 2 proved that newtonian physics are about as fun as mining veldspar, PVP comabt would be nigh on impossible
I personally like the physics of Eve, it works rather well, and even though in escense each system in EVE is a big 'room' connected by 'doors'(jump gates) i wouldnt have it any other way

The only thing I don't like is flying through planets. I shut my eyes and imagine going around them instead.

Take a look at a nasa space shuttle some time while it's in space and in the process of manoeuvring and you'll understand. There are manoeuvering thrusters all around the ship, in eve they are only in the back and all fire simultaneously.

A lot of that is probably because in a "true 3d, no up, no down" environment, it's easy to lose track of what's going on. It's not a natural human state to have no up / down reference.
Same with the camera locking off. It would just make the game put more stress on your brain to decode what's going on if it span and span and left you unsure of what way you're looking.

I do wish that they would put more into the 'realism' or simulation aspect of the game.
Every time i've heard them speak about it publicly, they say that looking cool is more important. Alas, realism can also look very cool.

An RTS-MMORPG, maybe not so much.

Perhaps. But I hope to see a game that hasn't got this limit, just to get used to 3d orientation. Not that I'm going into space or anything as I'm not but it'd be a mind-expanding experience.
And yeah, the camera thing is basically due to the quoted post and the fact that mice only have two to four buttons, and making such complex controls would require keystrokes that were better used for functions like activating mods, etc.
The bays? You go in, you come out, they've got holes in the stations for that I guess.
As far as the wateryness goes, also notice that sometimes your ship bobs up and down? There you just got another itch to scratch.
Just a technicality. ----- :::Need to be cleaned:::
Sorry mods, hijack removed - blame the sig length limit. I thought you just didnt love us anymore - Tim
