Hi :).
As many people know (how could you miss the giant obtrusive signature? ^^;), I run http://www.eve-tanking.com]eve-tanking.com[/url]. Recently, I've decided to start back up the lotteries I thought of doing once before. I started one a long time ago for some invention skillbooks before Kali came out and it went very well. I've recently started back up and my first one has gotten off to a good start:
Eve-tanking lottery 1
First prize is a caldari Navy Raven plus launchers and capacitor rigs. Second prize is a normal raven plus the same launchers and rigs. See the thread linked above for more details.
In this thread, I would like some suggestions for future lotteries. They should be tanking based, such as corpum or gist modules or even fully fitted tech 2 or faction ships which are good at tanking. Another idea I've had is a pack of combat boosters that augment tanks, though I might just throw them in as an extra on top of something else. Anyone have any other ideas?

Please do get rid of that condition. Rather just set end date as normally, and state if untaken number wins, you get to keep the prize. It is just small statistical risk, that will balance in the long run.
IMHO would make lotteries more enjoyable (fixed end date, and no hassle for returning ISKies).

I can see what you're saying. The reason people use 49 tickets is to base it on the UK national lottery, whose results are viewable online by anyone and are drawn on UK national television. The reason all of them must sell is that unlike established lotteries like the BIG lottery, tickets might not all sell.
If I did it your way without selling all tickets, the remaining tickets would essentially be sold to me as I am the house. If nobody wins, the item remains with me and people might not be too happy with "no winner", whereas people are probably happier to wait a while and find out someone won. The chance of winning per ticket is still the same but the statistically normalised profit per ticket is lower since unsold tickets are not worth as much as sold ones.
This is because the 49 tickets have to be worth more together than the prize. Say the prize is worth 1b. Unsold tickets are worth 1/49th of 1b, which is about 20m. To make a profit, I'd set my ticket price to something like 24m like everyone would. In this scenario, tickets are worth 4m more to me if they sell than if they don't.
If I can safely say that most of the tickets will sell, I WILL give this a try, Heikki. It will take some fiddling with the time for the auction and I'll need to advertise it more vigorously but it'd definitely work. I'll need to run a lottery or two to figure out how long it might take for tickets to sell.

For all the lotteries I have run I have never had to use that clause, successful advertisement is key and failing that bugging friends to purchase the last few tickets works too.
Often you will get regulars who will come back nearly every time. They will often purchase the last few tickets as well. Join the In-game lottery mailing list: "Kaede Lottery" to keep uptodate on the latest lottery. |

Ticket sales have slowed and I may invoke Heikki's idea and buy the remaining tickets myself.
With regards further lotteries, I'm thinking the next one will have a significantly lower ticket price and be armour related. How does this idea grab people for the next lotto?:
Top Prize: 1 x Centus X-Type Large Armour Repairer 1 x Centus X-Type Explosive Armour Hardener
Second Prize: 1 x Mizuro's Modified Large Armour Repairer 1 x Centus A-Type EM Armour Hardener
If I can work out a cheaper deal with my Exile booster supplier, maybe I could throw a few units in there on each prize. They aren't cheap at the moment, 10m a pop :S.

All tickets have sold! There are a few last minute reserved-ticket cancellations due to nonpayment. At this exact moment, there are three tickets remaining for purchase.
The main lottery will take place on Saturday 14th April and the second one on the wednesday immediately following it (18th). Results will be taken as the bonus ball from the UK National Lottery, which would be up here by saturday 9PM or sunday some time. The one you're looking for is the topleft one that says "lotto" (the one that right now says 20 as the bonus ball).
Good luck everyone! There are still three tickets left of this lottery for those that wish to enter and remember to visit http://www.eve-tanking.com on sunday for a link to the next lottery, which promises more prizes and a reduced ticket price!

Congratulations go to Tucson, who won with ticket number 14. When I get docked, I'll send you the Raven Navy Issue, three capacitor control circuits and seven arbalest siege launchers.
As planned, the normal Raven with rigs and launchers goes to the bonus ball of the wednesday draw.
