I've a few longbows hanging around my room. Handmade old-school stuff that totally bombed my wallet. They work excellently, but I've been way too busy with work and all to have some fun. Used to make my own arrows, as well.
Ah, the good old days... |

Ah, the good old days... well, you could always invest in a shooting/target mat for your backyard (or apartment if you live in one!) and burn off some arrows once you're home from work! |

Just getting it out of the way early before someone tries / fails to make it funny.
/On topic my father used to love hunting with a Compact Bow. He has gotten older now though. I asked if I could try it once but he said the cord would probably snap from age. |

No, but I know a friend in the united states that hunts with an actual modern bow..He rather use a bow than any sort of gun.
he talks about his hunting on an uncommon basis, but sometimes he shows me a picture what he caught, and ofc it is a rabbit with a spear (or x2) through its neck or head... (because they run away sometimes with a stick through their head apparently, yeah awesome details!)
I cannot indulge in his typical hunting or a rabbit diet, but he is a cool fellow. |

Well, I am into firearms competition, but every time I see some legolas type dude with big talent, I get motivated to try archery. I have tried it, but then really end up missing how fast I can destroy multiple targets at almost all relevant ranges with mah rapid fire noise makers |

I used to teach bowhunting and was lucky to meet one of the few guys who worked on military tests for the taking out of sentries with bows.
Always have a PSE Npva nearby but my quiver is lacking lately.

One of my hobbies is reenactement/Living history with focus on the european medieval times. I have no bow on my own, but shoot sometimes with handmade longbows or crossbows from my friends.
Mostly fighting with sword and shield i'm faced very often with archers performing artillery on our line. Thank god we use blunts to prevent serious injuries but every hit deals a nice blue mark :D |

i do really hope that you are using foam/latex blunts, because a real steel blunt can do some serious damage if it's shot from a war or hunting bow |

Used to go to an Archery club nearby, twas alot of fun. Bro bought an old recurve bow too that I mess around with now and then.
I wanted to but never bought my own knowing it's an expensive hobby to get into if you arent serious about it (like how I ended up using my bros bow more than he ever did  ) |

my Dad had a wildcat crossbow many years ago which he gave to me. i used find it very calming when i was on a nice long field firing a few arrows at a target or 2. although i never joined a club officially because i never had the time and when i moved to Iceland, i had to leave it behind.
would love to start up again, but i'm not sure what the laws are around bows and crossbows in Iceland. might dig into it shortly :) |

In LARPs, the original way to blunt was to take one of those small 'high bounce' balls, attach it to the tip, then cover with pipe insulation and duct tape. That tended to work out OK even in point-blank since the bows were restricted to kid-level draw power (15-20 lbs). The 'blue mark' is probably a powder bag similar to the early spell packet beanbags.
Of course, that also made the arrow front-heavy and not as accurate - sure you can compensate but only so much. I'll have to nag my brother about what his LARP is doing now, since they've gotten pretty deep into latex weapons.
I may have come here from Myst Online, but that does not make me any less bloodthirsty than the average Eve player.
Just more subtle.

I have a regular store bought 120lb crossbow and a self made 45lb composite bow from a fibreglass and maple. I broke the string from the bow and since the string isn't of any standard length, getting a new string for the bow has proven to be difficult. I made the string and the bow in school about 15-20 years a ago and the teacher who helped me with making the bow has since gone to retirement and taken his stuff with him and all that, hence the difficulties. |

Sure...we are not mad :) At last...even if over 5000 years old...bows (and slings <3) are weapons.
Did anyone of you ever shoot with "whistling arrows" ?(don't know the right english word). They're very scary if you hear them the first time. |

I used to shoot archery at an Olympic level. The primary bows I used for competition were all Hoyt Gold Medalists (recurve, 50 lb. draw). I've also used (a long time ago) a few Hoyt Pro-force Extremes at about 90 lb. draw, 60% let off, overdraw etc. for men's indoor.
