Hello, I searched and could not find an answer, if I understand I need a salvage tackle and the salvaging skill, this is all well and good but I can't find information on this salvage tackle thing so I can find one to buy and mount unless it is called something different I am at a loss.
Can anyone shed some light on this please at least let me know what item category to look under and a proper name?

Just type salvage into the search function of the market and you'll find the skill and module.

Thanks, I forgot the market had a search function, I was using the search feature for the item database.
Most appreciated

Salvage tackle is not necessary, it just provides bonuses.
You need the Salvaging skill, and a Salvager module, more salvager modules to salvage faster. Target the wreck and activate salvager modules.
Tractor beams are also helpful, but not required. You will need your Salvaging skill to level 3 at this time in order to salvage all wrecks you come across. Higher levels increase the chance of success, making salvage faster.

Is salvaging something that can get you in trouble with Concord?
I¦m mining high sec scordite and some moron came by and shot at me. Concord pwnd him pretty bad and since my Badger has the salvage rig and I got the skills I felt tempted to loot and salvage the remains of the unlucky pilot.
Will I get attacked/penalitzed by Concord for looting a wreck in high sec?

No. You will never get penalized by CONCORD for looting (and that includes your security status too - it will never descrease for theft). However, if the loot belongs to another player (which it does in this case, to the player whose wreck it is) then that player is able to fire on you without CONCORD intervening for the next 15 minutes.

No. There is no CONCORD response and additionally you will not be aggressed to the player, so in mechanics terms you are free to loot as much as you want.
However it's probably not polite to go around looting other peoples' wrecks without their permission. They won't be allowed to fire on you but it's still a good idea to upset people as little as possible...

Also be careful when looting (as stated there is no risk in salvaging) other player's wrecks: not only can the owner attack you, if they are in a player (non-NPC) corp, then any of their corp mates can attack you as well.
On the other hand there is nothing (short of an unnoticed tackler) stopping your from grabbing the goods and running to a station to hid in safety while you wait for the 15 minute timer to run out.

I was unable to salvage a True Sansha or Loyal Sansha until after salvage 4. So higher salvage is needed for some hi-end rats. Also higher salvage skill better chance of salvage loot and faster salvage times.

Half right.
Faster salvage times, yes.
Better chance of salvage loot, no. ------------------ Ironfleet.com Proposal: Automated Ore Return Vehicles |

Yes. But it may be very slow, and require many cycles of your salvager.
Even with salvage level five I fail frequently on T2 ships. But it's well worth it, the salvaged items can be worth millions. ------------------ Ironfleet.com Proposal: Automated Ore Return Vehicles |

I have Level 4 in salvage, and can salvage any wreck. But salvage is chance based... and bigger ships are harder to salvage than smaller ships. T2 can be done with level 4, you may just have to wait a couple of cycles.... or you will get it on the first try. -----------------------------------------------

Hi. I'm a new player doing lvl1 missions. Currently I'm flying a Merlin, and have completed every mission without problems. I'm buyin a Caracal when my skills allow me to move to lvl2 missions. My question is, it is worth to fit a salvage module on my ship? I believe it uses a hi slot, so I would need to remove a railgun...
Thanks in advance... |

The Caracal is a missle ship and you get bonus' for missles. If you are going to use other types of weapons, another hull might give you better bonus'.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. What I'm asking is:
- In the Merlin I'm using for lvl1 missions now, I have 2 missile + 2 railguns. It is worth the risk/trouble/time to remove 1 railgun and put in a salvage module?
- The same question above, but for the Caracal I'll get next week for lvl2 missions and changing a missile for the salvage module.
Thank you...

No, don't waste a slot on your Caracal (or your Merlin, either) on a salvager. Instead, once you get your Caracal, use your Merlin as a dedicated salvage ship. Put a couple of salvagers and a couple of tractor beams on it, and fly to the mission site after you finish to clean up the salvage. Eventually, though, you might think about getting a destroyer, with four salvagers and a couple or more tractor beams to make salvage go really fast. If you're serious about salvaging. Salvaging does have the potential to double your earnings from missions.

Thx for your insightful answer. Now that you mention about the destroyer, a Cormorant with 8 hi slots would be helpful right? What would be a good fitting for that ship? I see it doesn't have much powergrid...
Besides, i'd like to hear how much can net an average salvage operation after a lvl1 / lvl2 mission... Thanks.

I'm currently doing lvl 2's in my Caracal, and I average 1.5 to 2 mill isk in salvage after each one. Loot, bounties and mission rewards basically double that. Of course, a few times I've gotten almost zilch in salvage, simply because there were few wrecks, and the random number generator was against me. My Cormorant has 4 salvagers, two tractors and a couple of 125mm proto rails for cruising the belts (for low stress recreational ratting ). It's amazing how many players don't bother to salvage their wrecks in the belts.
