ok thats it, im never offering ransoms again. offered it two times this evening and both got away.
dont get me wrong i respect both parties involved(well one of them atleast) for how they did it. first i ransomed this guy in a destroyer. got him to 1% hull and ransomed him. turned my guns off and waited a few sec¦s. then the guy has a friend (in another corp) fly in an remote rep him. really nicely done imo, since the other guy was in a too big ship for me.
second guy, i ransom: (in same sys, next belt to) after tanking him, his (seemingly endless) drones, a friend in a frig and 3 rats, i get him into structure. i ransom, he asks for a few seconds, he self destructs!?!
why would you do that? i only asked for one mill!!! he¦s flying an arbitrator. he said he doesnt remember if he hit the self desturuct or not? then he warps of in his pod and comes back in a sec in a maller with his friend in a frig and they almost get me (they forgot the scrambler). i was at 5% hull when i warped away, so good job to them.
to give credit where credit it due, all involved were extremely pro, no smack (unfortunately so cause i live for that crap) and all enjoying the fight.
all im saying is why in f**** sake would you ransome anyone. i only asked for 1 fing mill, their ship was worth at least 3 or 5 times that. from here on now, no fing ransom¦s and no more listening to whines about not ransoming.
ps i get the part about ransoming in a gank squad, thats sound viable. so dont flame me about that, this is high sec pirating.
(ps by the way this was in high sec and i just stole their loot/ore to get them to fire on me. i¦ve got >900k sp¦s and they a little more.)

I would have said the reason they didn't take a ransom was because they clearly had plans up thier sleave, so the fact you only asked for one mil means nothing.
If you had me beat and I was asked for a mil (I have been posting about how I dont think I would accept ransom demands only mins ago) I would take it.
All to often I see posts about ransom demands that I simply could not pay even if I wanted to, but one mill? I would have that. (with a small amount of suspision i have to admit).
If I had a whack load of friends near by all warping in, coupled with several hard as nails drones which were all on the eve-line to thier 'twice as hard as nails' drone cousins then no, I wouldn't have given you 1 isk, let alone one mil.
I think you've simply been unlucky, and if you were seriously going to let them go for one mil hats off to you because the lowest ransom people seem to post about in these forums are 10 times that for some poor guy on his first day in an ibis.

well all involved were pretty low sp, so i didnt want to nor could have set a high ransome, since a >2month old chars couldnt have amassed very much money and a mil for me is quite nice.
and i definetly would have let them go. thats why i asked for ransom instead of enlarging my epeen with 2 kill mails:)
thanks for the response

im in a fing rifer man! what do you want me to do? ransom a titan?
but point taken, maybe i should wait with the ransoms until my victims are in an expensive ship.
i just thought a low sp like me would take a cheap ransom.

nah, tanks for the offer Soporo though...
like i said, and all have said above, they had their reasons and one at least got a way fair and square. im just saying, im not offering ransom¦s anymore. at least not untill im preying on bigger targets and i¦ve got a gank squad behind me:)

Some advice: when you're in a smaller ship than the target, and especially when you're starting out pirating with low SP etc., just pop the ship and then ransom the pod. Until you have the firepower and the endurance to control the situation and secure the area, situations like that are going to occur all too often.
Because I said so...

Had a couple of nice ransoms yesterday...
First up was a hyperion, after scanning it was decided that even though he had junk fitted we'd ask for 150m, he paid....
Next up a Vindicator on AP through low sec (wtf), again, after scanning (t1 fitted!!)and taking to hull the guy pleaded that he only had x amount of isk and payed the lot to us... 355m isk, easy money.
Ransoming pays pretty well...

Yep, solo ransom is a loosing proposition most times. But when you hit a good one it makes it all worth while. Also, just becuase you got podded on a gate instead of ransomed doesn't mean anything, just unlucky for you there was more targets coming in and not enough scrams.

Solo ransoms are kind of hard these days.I for one will hardly ever ransom when iam alone.Ransoms give people time to get the gank squad into kill you.Group ransom is good though bc,s and up though only.

I'm starting to agree with you,
Ransoming people you find in belts when your solo'ing has limited future
Hell.. people in belts is rare enough.... never mind ppl in belts willing to pay ransoms, or in fact ransoms that are worthwhile.
However, its a different story when you get hold of a mission runner, they are most likley going to have better fittings, and even inplants .... if you want ransoms id suggest getting in a cov-ops ship.

While i understand what ur saying, if u enjoy ransoming then do continue. Sounds like ur just having some bad luck.
Somethings strike me as strange tho here.
Firstly if i saw someone enter the same belt as the one i was ransoming in then i would have seen the corp ticker and blown away that 1% hull in 1 shot way before he even locked his corpmate. Also keep an eye on scanner to see for help coming next time.
Secondly did u not see the self destruct message come on the screen saying he's activated it and then had 2 minutes to kill the guy before it activated?
As i say ransoms are good when they come off which they do often so u should keep trying and be more cautious about backup if u do.

Infinitus Odium are proud to say we never ransom as that would decrease the number of souls collected. We podkill as often as we can and we store all the dead bodies in heaps and piles for our own amusement. Ransoming is not worth it since the targets very seldom keep their part of the parley.

you¦re absolutely right. had i payed 100% attention i wouldnt have srewed it up. and thinking about it now it was pretty stupid to try and ransom alone, in a very highly populated, high sec sys.
in the first fight, in my defense, we had had some spectators. also the repper was in a noob corp and warped right on top of his friend. so they probably ganged up.
the second fight, i missed the anouncement prolly on account of me furiously switching targets (ive max 2 targets with my skills )
but like i said pretty silly thing to do in a .9sys.
as a side note, am i right in assuming that i gained kill rights on the remote repper? i mean he¦s helping my victim, right? so i could have, in theory, shot at him and not get concorded, right?
