Edited by: Marduk Felzhen on 02/04/2007 06:34:21 oops, pressed enter too quickly. anyway i hear alot of people say the raptor sucks. Is this because its overshadowed by its more popular brother the crow? What if the crow was taken out of the picture, and the rapter was compared relative to the other ceptors, would it still stink as badly? If so, why is this?

For some strange reason i decided to train caldari frig 5 waaay back in the day, knowing good and well that hybrids were my only love in life. Ive spent alot of time flying the raptor and have since come to prefer it any day over the crow.
If you put some time into it you'll figure out a good setup.
I run.. Highs: 2x light ion II 2x small nos
Mids: named mwd 7.5k scram web
Lows: Sar II cap relay Either a speed mod or a mapc.(been a while)
Its hella cheaper and is ok.. but if your really serious about using a ship like this just invest in a taranis.

Edited by: Kaylee Zara on 02/04/2007 07:18:07 I love my Raptors. Everyone hates on the Raptor but it's not as bad as everyone would have you think and for 1/3rd of the price of a Crow it's an OK ship.
People just see a split bonus and since they can't just fit standard generic setup No. 7 they have a #cry.
The only way to know for sure is to try it out yourself and see what you think rather than listening to what the sheep army thinks.

Anything you can do, my taranis can do better. The raptor doesn't suck because it's a bad ship, it sucks because every other ship in its class is better.

Only the Vengence (3 mid) and Stilleto (Mids Galore) are worth flying as the "off" interceptors.
Ares, and Raptor are pretty much crap, mostly due to weight and top speed.
If the Raptor had the same weight as the crow, and a higher top speed, it'd be worth it. Same with the Ares. Give it 4 mids, less lows, less mass, more top speed. It'd be a fantastic tackler to compare to the 'ranis's punch.
Quote: Also, he didnt even have a Scrambler, so the POS would have gotten away anyway.

The raptor isn't that bad of a ship tbh. It's just the crow outshines it on all levels other than fleets.

One good thing about raptor is that it can locks faster than crow. It is very cheap ship nad pretty fun to fly. You don't need much damage if you are tackler, so i suggest MWD, webber, scrambler and speed mods to lows. High slots should contain some damage but it is not very important.

The damage is hideous, its slow and cumbersome partically nullifying its use as a fast warping tackle or nothing ship. It's the worst tier 1 interceptor in my opinion.
Be nice if its high slots were re-arranged as a railboat, it would need quite a bit of extra grid though.

Edited by: achoura on 02/04/2007 12:26:46 Edited by: achoura on 02/04/2007 12:26:23 The over shadowed intys are only over shadowed for 2 (stupid reasons)
1. They deal less dammage/split weapons
2. They have less mids
Now for the twits here intys are ment to do one job. An intereptor isnt a dammage dealer, it isnt a tank, all an interceptor is ment to do is scrambel a battelship/battelcruiser/whatever, its ability to dammage said ship is irrelivent. You only need two mid slots to do this, you need no tank with your speed, go buy a ship with more lows, nano and cap recharge it then put it in a gang.
And as a foot-note, dual weapons systems like the raptor and ares do more dammage than single weapons systems, They just require double the skills, something many crow pilots lack.

I'm guessing you are talking about the Malediction not the vengence, and correct me if I'm wrong isn't the ares one of the fastest inties?

Raptor is pretty good for a disposable but fast tackler due to its price.

Exactly. If everyone can get over the fact that Interceptors aren't meant to be able to solo anything beyond maybe other interceptors, then the Raptor is the obvious choice as it can:
1/ Go very fast. 2/ Fit a scram. 3/ Not hit your wallet when someone catches you out.
Simple as.
