depends on your skills really
amarr beat out in turret ability for lazors but my megathron can hold 7 lazors, 1 missle launcher (for cruise), 8 harvisters and 6 wasps.
I do mining and defence by m'self easily that way. "Sit" on a rock, use harvies, when pirates come, imediatly scoop harvies, fire crusie, launch wasps, kill everything, scoop wasps, launch harvies, repete :)
Yes i am a carebear and damn proud of it!! =P

Apocalypse
Your Mega Afocal Pulse Maser I perfectly strikes Asteroid (Veldspar) [R0ME], wrecking for 798.3 damage.
Your 425mm Railgun I perfectly strikes Guardian Captain, wrecking for 685.9 damage.

Dominix would do pretty well for deep core mining .. since it can take 6 DCM miners with about 4 coproccessors .. where the others with more turrets all need to cram all/most of there low slots to make 5 :P

Considering price, Armagedon is the best choice.
7 turrets, 2500 drone bay.
If price is not a problem Megathron.
Apoc seems good, but fitting 8 miners 2 with base 450 CPU will not allow you to add anything else... and drone bay is poor.

I can fit 8 miner 2's with 2 or 3 coprocessors, leaving 4 or 5 low slots free

if you aim at low sec mining alone i would say megathron.I use nearly same tactic as Blake Drake , works grerat.

and suprisingly enough an apoc can also use a missile launcher... or 2 like a megathron.
Also i think you'd rather use 10harvs ont 8 -.-

Well since apoc is the ship that can use 8 miner II and 10 harvesters then it must be the best mining ship..
Atleast if you see to ore / min

Well i would go to for the amarr! apoc if u have the money but if not i would go for the armageddon 7 turrets and 2500 drone space that rocks! amarr for minning

Thats my setup, i cant use 10 drones thank you very much =P

There is great doubt.
If you mine alone hwat will you defend with then from NPC?
You must sacrifice some turret or some drone space.
In megathron you got enough drones sapce to take 10 harvesters and enough drone for defence.
