Basically I think 'NO NO NO NO NO!!!'
It's a game, yes. I've spent almost 18 months playing, and only now am I in a position to use the ships I want to across the spectrum. If that were to go I would cancel my subscription, simple as that - as would thousands of other players. It would be hundreds of game hours just down the tube.
The only people to suggest this are generally newbs (no offence intended) or a few months old and feel they're on an unlevel playing field. Remember, it's very easy to tip the odds in your favour if you choose your skills, ships and fittings wisely.

You have dozens of alliances, trillions of isks, millions of skillpoints. I have a feeling that we have to much of everything!
Lets reset everything! Wallets, Skills, assets, alliances etc. Everything!
Lets go back to stone age! And lets start the fun again!
What do you say?

A reset is a wonderful idea.
In fact, it is already possible to do this. When you log in, there is a option to Terminate your Character. To keep things fair, you can always transfer your assets to a alt, so that way you dont lose out on any isk after you "Reset" your character! --

OP said it wouldnt take away the fun... ofc it will... the fun of not being able to fly ships i have been training for the last 4 months. the fun being able to use different ships.
i disagree 100%, whit a reset id say atleast 90% ppl would leave instantly, becouse quite alot of ppl have been playing over a year or 2. takeing away that would suck balls. --------------------------------------- Sig killed by MODs.... reworking it Great being Gallente... aint it ? ----------------- YARRRR, sig hijack! -HornFrog ----------------- |

I've always been here so i've got a lot of time invested. When you can make the penalty newer players get equal to the penalty I would get for losing everything, then we can talk about it. Maybe they don't gain any SP for the first 4 years of play? sound fair?

Why do people keep thinking this would be a good idea? Doesn't that somewhat defeat the point of a persistent universe? i.e. the point of an MMO.

Just make a 2nd server and let all with existing accounts train characters on that one as well. But it's been suggested before and many seems to be afraid that it'll end up dead for the first couple of months while everyone is training learning skills etc.
But it'd be nice anyway, at least I'd like it. A nice way to spend time when the main is in a boring heavy training and have more ISK than I can spend anyway, or when your system is camped by hostiles and you can't log in and do something effective. With a 2nd server you'd at least pay for a game to play rather than having nothing to log in to.
Question is how heavy this would be on the server load, it will cost somewhere and.. who's to pay for it? I'd considering adding another +30% on my current monthly fee to have a "2nd" server tied to the same account (note, not a 2nd account). Else I could just do like everyone else and have an alt on Tranquility, but that doesn't appeal to me nearly as much.

The test server is always up for risk free action.
And again - persistent verse and a detailed market system aren't much value when you split the server in two.

Lielu Lee, if you have played EVE for like 2 years, and you can fly those sexy faction battleships and those cool dreads + having 4-5 bill isk, and then ask your self, wow would it be cool to reset you back to a noob ship with 5k isk?.
Would that be fun? no it wouldn't be fun.
What on earth was you thinking on to get this stupid stuuuuuupid idea LOL?
EVE is not like WoW that you can't do much when you are level 10, by thinking of what you can do with a level 70 player. A character in EVE with 10 mill SP can do a LOT in EVE, a 10 mill SP player in EVE can even kill a 40 mill SP player.
So saying this on the WoW forum would be much better

Few posts higher i have asked if anyone see any pluses from this? Just use your imagination guys.
Its easy to say: OMG im playing X years, i made X trillions of isks, bought X ships. Im uber now and one small poor Lielu want to take it away from me!! OMG DIE!!
What will i respond? I also have alot of isk and alot of skillpoints. So what? Its a game. I did not pay CCP for ability to gather virtual money. I prefer gathering money in real life. I paid CCP for possibility to have alot of fun.
In my opinion fun now is very low (or limited). We already know servers wont be restarted, so lets just play with a little bit of speculation :)
Of course you can disagree with me.
All i have is one small request. Please think a little bit wider before posting standard answer (which we have tons here already).
If you still think the same, ok. I wont arque. Thank you.

Unfortunately doing a reset will make most matters only worse.
Why do people want a reset: - 0.0 would be empty (for now) > but those that do have the power now to keep it will still have the same power to take it again if they decide to reorganise in the same group.
- better ability to compete with older players > which means that when you become one of the older players another reset has to happen, lets see what u think about that by then.
- market reset > cool now i can sell my <insert item> for 1000% and higher markup, whats the use no one can afford it anyway and will more likely build their own for that kind of prices.
- lag is gone > but for how long, ok true granted you did scare away about 50% or more of eve's playerbase but once the game attracts more people again you will be where you left before the reset.
Sideaffects: - certain content becomes "locked" till someone is able to aquire the skills and wealth to start it up again. - many people needed to start up anything (which means more people will be in empire thuss creating the lag you thought about solveing by a reset). - extreme competition, everyone will have to be at the same low level content you are at which means that for example 10.000 players will be trying earn trough the same means as you (not really usefull to start building and selling titans right now).
Results: - 50% or more of the playerbase gets discouraged about their loss taken and wonder if it would happen again in the future, this means very little people will actually consider playing if they value progress. - Probability of impacts to ccp which could put their whole investment at risk (and eventually by the resulting fallout cause their company to have to shutdown if they cannot bear the strain).
Conclusion: If a company runs several games / servers and it doesn't really matter alot if overnight all their subsribers leave for one of the games they could do it, but since ccp is not widely orientated and their mainstream income is eve for now they cannot take the risk. I have seen company's with webbased games and mmorpg's go broke because they implemented something like this in the hope to have more people playing and interest newer players to also start playing but they forgot to think about how people always like to progress and not loose their "work". Currently there is much competition and if your game doesn't offer what an competitors game does you will be the one which will (eventually) loose out once your players start switching over to the competition. Also without income you have very little hope of continuelesly promoteing your game to new players which results you cannot reach the audiance you wished to reach (namely new, formaly unknown to the game players). Mouth to mouth advertiseing only stretches so far to reach a playerbase, and like a popular line says: it takes money to make money.
Anyway hopefully these things give you some idea as of why it wouldn't be such a good idea to do what u propose, im sure i could think up alot more but these should allready give an good impression of the why's and dont's

No need to restart. Just let old characters die due to their age. Afraid of losing status and wealth? Prepare a heir in due time.

Would be a nice idea for a new alt server that operates on a different DT time scale than the Tranq one.
Could also change the ratings of spaces and all around and make it a bit more interesting. This Sig is Within Rules. :P

Edited by: Lord WarATron on 04/04/2007 11:34:08 As I have already mentioned, the facility to reset is already ingame. Simply on the logon screen click the terminate button, wait 10 hours then click the Complete termination button again. After all, since you beleive a reset is a fantastic idea, I am sure that the rest of all eve players will follow in your footsteps if you lead by example! --
