I'm sure most of you are familiar with Seti@Home, Folding@Home, etc. I invite you to join with thousands of others to help find cures for Cancer, Muscular Dystrophy, and a host of other diseases that afflict millions around the world.

A brief check into this organisation would suggest they will be making their computing power available to non-profit (charities) and public organisation, a free supercomputer for a bit. This is rather different to the folding model which maintains their use of your machine for their profits and their patents.
I must say, however, I only briefly investigated this and haven't checked fully into the background of this organisation, their own internal source of funding I am unaware of.

I use FOLDING@HOME, and they've recently developed a GPU version of their client, so you can use your graphics card whilst not gaming to help them find cures!

Work with me here..
More CPU time being used = more heat + more electricity
More electricity = more fossil fuels used
More fossil fuels used = more CO2
More CO2 = more global warming
More global warming = more CPU time used to work out why there is global warming...
