Creative SB X-Fi and Vista do not get along - at least none of the advanced features. Bring up "Creative Audio Console", select "Mode" tab, switch to "Audio Creation Mode". This mode does the least post-processing on the sound, uses least resources, and doesn't generate pops and *****les.
Using either other mode causes 98 to 100% CPU utilization, with nasty static when I hit 100% - which happens whenever I warp, try to play external music and so on.
I suspect that it's the same with other Creative sound chips (on board and as cards).

It's cool man. Thanks :) I appologise for my reply as well, I normally do not respond like that - just got my goat I guess that my post was totally misunderstood by a few people.

Anyway, I hope they figure out just what is the issue - I noticed the *****ling does still happen on our 2nd PC - which is an older AC97 onboard. I wanted to get the same sound card I have for my pc and try it out on it -- however, it's not my pc and the owner is adamant she doesn't want a new sound card. If I win, I'll report back.
Heck, it could be the possible incomatability the game has with Windows MCE that makes my sound work ok (ironicy at it's best mayhaps?, lol) - or the gods have blessed my ears and I no longer hear the snaps and pops. /me cheers

Edited by: Shinji Seto on 21/07/2007 13:01:44 Anyone found a fix for this yet? I have been playing eve for just under 2 years with a X-FI card with no problems. Then the Rev II "sound upgrade" came. everytime I log into eve it screws my sound drivers up. Music plays from side right channel only, with sound effects in the proper channels. *****ling sound during warp out of the center channel, sounds get stuck repeating, crazy static with high pitched feedback when I move things from my hanger to my cargo hold. Or senario 2, Eve simply crashes my sound completely and I have to restart to get my sound to work again.

I've had this request open for almost a month now. First I was told to update my drivers. Next I was told to check if I could turn down the acceleration level, which I dont have the option to do with directx 10 and vista. This was the response first response when I said I dont have the option to turn it down:
"GM Retrofire Sent - 7/20/2007 5:40:00 PM Hi.
It seems that hardware acceleration has been removed in DirectX10, have you checked anywhere in your soundcard application whether an option is there to lower the acceleration?"
I replied and said no. Got this response....
"Hi.
Have you thoroughly checked your soundcards applications for this feature?"
So ya I continue to wait for a solution to this problem, which they obviously dont have.

So basically what you are saying is that you don't want to have to do any work to attempt to fix this problem by checking to see if in Vista they moved the Acceleration control from dxdiag to the sound control panel. Some people have obviously had luck with getting the problem fixed by changing this setting and it may help you(it might not help you as well).
I don't know maybe it is just me but I am more willing to help people who are willing to try and help themselves, also who knows you may get another suggestion if you can find and change the option, or even if you look for it and can't find it.

Bad assumption. I have been trying to find a solution. Any advice on how to solve the problem then?

Originally by: Auronn I've started experiencing this problem too since Revelations 2. Cant be due to an inferior sound card as im using an X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro which is pretty much the best gaming soudn card there is. Using the latest drivers too.
I Have the same problem, use the same card ( X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro ) All I get is a Buzzing sound from the Eve Client. Switching sound of does not make it go away. All started when Rev 2 came out
When it comes to sound, Eve gets a 2/10 rating compared to other PC games. Its terrible.
Is CCP going to do anything ???? "Hello hello .. echo echoooo
