Originally by: Alekonner I am curious too, to know the answer to Obiruk's last question.
Is it cost/time effective, after finishing a mission to jump back to that location with a salvager, and salvage the wrecks?
If you compare mission running and salvage at the lvl1-2 stage it's the mission running that's not cost/time effective. I've made as much as 6m off a single lvl1 mission with just the salvaging, the mission itself only gave like 300k and took about 2x as long to kill then to clean them up. Not sure about lvl2's I didn't stay there long and I'm entirely too lazy to salvage my lvl3's although I would think it's still very effective as I'm usually only getting around 1.5m per mission or so. -=^=- "Someday the world will recognize the genius in my insanity." |

As for me (Minmatar, Military, Soldier) I was planning on getting a Destroyer because of the load of skills I have for it already to make it extremely useful like Small Projectile Turrets V. A Cruiser right now for me is way too skill intensive for me with the drastic change to medium turrets and similar fittings which also cost more money. My advice is to run Level 1's and 2's or Rat with your Destroyer while training for Cruisers at the same time. You'll gain money faster too with a Destroyer so you can be better prepared for the costs that a Cruiser may cost.

In my experience, destroyers tend to be dismissed rather quickly for both PvP and PvE (with the sole exception being Lvl 1 missions and salvaging). Which is a shame since they're actually fine little ships and great fun to fly.
Most players train destroyers early in the game, only to find the fitting requirements are rather strict for their skill levels. Their hull does seems to be made from recycled newspaper and painted to look like metal.
Many pilots see this and turn to cruisers and never really look back.
But when you've gotten your fitting skills up, and can use T2 small turrets (during that long wait for T2 mediums and large), remember to check the destroyer class out again. You'll be surprised at what these ships can do with a solid skillset backing them up.
I would most certainly train destroyers... even if they were not the path to Interdictors (which are a blast in their own right).

I have a Catalyst with 4xTractors, 4xSalvagers, MWD and Cap recharger, lows stuffed full of T2 cargo expanders and 3 salvage tackle.
I don't run missions myself, but when a friend needs help clearing out L4 Guristas Extravaganza, I can do it in about 20 minutes, including looting the wrecks. And yes, you get a *TON* of ISK from mission salvage, in many cases more than the mission was worth.

In mission running, I found that salvaging and looting isn't really worth the effort unless you need the ISK right away. It's better to just grind the standing and advance to the higher level missions where the reward and loot is better and you need the cash then. But then if you don't need the cash at some point, it's better to just grind standing again and wait till level 4 missions to salvage / loot.
Don't forget that the loot is not ISK immediately. You still have to make the effort to sell it properly for maximum profit.
