Salutations, people of the Intergalactic Summit!
I have a bit of an odd question, regarding the new SoCT hull. I've tested it thoroughly to be sure I wasn't going mad: when warping the Sunesis makes a distinctive purring sound! I have also observed it on the Gnosis, but it's distinctly lacking from the Apotheosis shuttle-class vessel. Have any of you experienced this on any other hulls? And does anyone have any ideas about what it could mean, what could be causing it or why it might be happening? My good comrades in ARC maybe? |

So. Did a little bit of testing at the outset. I usually filter my pod interface for purely visual and kinesthetic input, not aural.
The newly-christened Sunesis-class destroyer ARCUV Kittenship does have a bass rumble while in warp, while the newly-christened Apotheosis-class shuttle ARCUV Not A Kitten does not have a bass rumble so much as a higher register hum. I also verified with one of the old ARC cruisers that a similar sound didn't register with a Caracal.
At the outset, my initial impression is that the spines forming a plane along the leading edge of the ship are some sort of warp modulation system, not unlike how the Sisters ships have a circular or near-circular outboard system for handling warp effects. It may be that this system's operation registers in capsule systems as background noise.
I'd also assume the SoCT system is different in approach; instead of a cylindrical distortion, they might be forming something more disc-shaped, and it may not be forced to stability so much as rippling, hence the vibration.
I'll refer this to the drive yards for review, and again inquire with Mr. Anteovnuecci, given his superior familiarity with Society systems.

To confirm: is this pod-generated noise, like most of what we hear while flying, or is it actually coming through the hull itself? Does the crew (if the Sunesis has any) hear it? And if it's coming through the hull and it's loud enough to be heard through all the suspension and goo and other impact dampening stuff, how loud is it?
Otherwise, is it some effect of the Sunesis's warp bubble directly stimulating either our vestibulocochlear nerve or brain directly?
E: alternately, maybe it's messing with the pod in such a way that the pod stimulates our head, which isn't much different from the first suggestion.

That sound is probably due to the fact that the Sunesis is actually a really old ship design that's only released to the public and has an old warp core array. I mean, that ship looks like a first generation Condor.
That the Society is using that ship to probe our thoughts, and the purring sound is the byproduct of our brains being virtually probed! |

Auditory hallucinations are not uncommon when the brain is subject to magnetic scanning. Specially when the target is in sensorial deprivation chamber, such as our capsules.
I for one ordered a dozen titanium cranial platings just in case I'm crazy enough to get on the helm of a Sunesis! |

Most animals I have seen in use on starships were fedos. And I would be so glad if they all could be replaced by either hamsters or cats, or at least pet furriers.
