I just wanted to point out - I was going to keep this to myself, but I figured I'd share it with everyone else in the spirit of openness and all that crap.
After long downtime, ice harvester 1 BPO's will be seeded.
Ice harvester 1's have become the best mineral compression in the galaxy, better than passive targeters, better than tractor beams, better than active armor hardeners, better than doomsday weapons.
Per 5 m3, an Ice harvester can fit about 100,000 Trit, plus 30k pyerite and a bunch of other mins.
This means that a dread with cargo expanders at 50,000 m3 can haul a billion units of trit in one jump (if my maths are correct).
Just FYI.

it will take ages to research them to decent ME levels though, 2-3 days / lvl in a mobile lab.

Edited by: Dai007 on 04/04/2007 11:17:37 You have to remember build time, if its the same as listed then ignore me :P.
I'll have a look when the server comes back up
//Edit, Pre-Calculation.. Its good for trit+pyerite compression.

Considering the (un)intended use of this BPO, CCP released it "pre-nerfed". You'd need a ME of 50 or so to get good yield, but they made each ME take 4 days.... wtf? Cmon CCP. Similar mods like Armor Hardeners, tractor beams, etc have ME measured in hours, not days.
I am still hoping this is a typo and it's meant to be 4 hours, not 4 days
Can someone confirm this is intended?

don't forget that the jump bridge array is better

You said it.
For reference, an Ice Harvester takes about 1/6th the minerals of a CRUISER to build, and is 5 m3.

Indeed the harvester BPO is nice for compression. Now you have to take in account time to compresssion ratio and the small tractor beam still is very nice since it is fast to manufacture. Also, for mineral compression I often tend to mix and match different bpo according to the current minerals that i need to compress. So yes this bpo is very nice to transport lot of mineral quickly but it is even better if you are not the one to do the compression.

Strip Miner I bpos offer similar compression with a slightly different mix of minerals, and have the advantage of being a more generally useful bpo (for invention, production, whatever).
