I want to ask all the pirates and pvpers what is the best race and ship for PVP. I know that all races can train all skills, but which one is better to start with? Which ship is the best for pvping or I should say which races ship. Basically I'm asking if you had to start over knowing what you know what would you pick for race and what racial ship would you specialize in? All answers are appreciated.

all i can say is, dont pick amarr except if u like the pilgrim
gallente and minmatar are the best races imo (allround) for pvp they got a good ship in every class

one thing you have to learn about eve is that it's not like most mmorg's. Every race has it's advantages in all areas and no race is the best at pvp or combat no matter what anyone says.
If i were to go back in time and start again however i think i would choose minmatar. Partly because it's the only race i haven't tried, partly because i like their play style and advantages due to guns not needing cap, flexability in shield and armor tanking, speed etc.

Well then I'm off to a good start picking the worst race appearantly . But it's no problem for me to start over since I'm new, which is why I asked. Thanks for the info. Any other opinions out there?

I understand that all characters will eventually equal out, but usually there are a few that start with an advantage which allows you to progress just a little faster at the begining. But then again like you said perhaps in EVE this isn't the case. Thanks for the info.

Sigh...there is no "best". A lot depends on your patience level-Minmatar are probably the most versatile; however, you'll spend a lot longer getting to the point where you can get the most out of the ships as opposed to jumping into the more directed races (exclusive drones/missiles etc). Just decide which race/style you like better and play the game . Of course a lot depends on your personality-as in "orbit at x and spam missiles/drones" versus actually "flying" the ship manually.
Also..individual ships have mission-specific roles to play on combat ops (interceptors/covops spring immediately to mind). Keep that in mind when volunteering a battleship for a "fast moving op"
I am glad I have chosen and stuck with Minmatar-and specialized as such. Minmatar are a bit bleah for mission running (or more likely I suck at them) but---once you get past the first couple million SP mark the versatility really starts to shine.
Good luck with your choice. And the best thing you could do is join a corp with experienced players that can get you moving in the right direction....and get EvEMON...

For pvp, then Caldari is tossed out immediately. Caldari ships are primarily regulated to support roles.
Amarr ships are the least flexible, but heavily biased towards pvp.
Minmatar ships require the most skills to train, lots of cross training in specialization skills (i.e. missiles, drones, navigation, gunnery). Minmatar ships really shine in the hands of an advanced player.
Gallente ships are probably the most flexible for pvp. You got a great sniper, best close range damage dealer, ships specializes in drones...good assault frigs, great T1 cruisers, deadly HACs, ungodly BCs and command ships. So I guess Gallente would be your best bet if you are starting pvp.

wouldn't agree with that personally. i don't see any outstanding amarr ships in pvp over any others apart from the obvious curse and pilgrim.
but yeah you definately won't go wrong with gallente. remember tho that eve is always being changed and balanced so what's good today might well not be in future.

I'm far from being an expert, but from what I have seen them do (and do to me) I would say I most feared:-
Amarr - Curse Caldari - Blackbird Gallente - Megathron Minmatar - Vagabond
Nano-curse and Vagabonds are the sickness. Blackbird is a great EWar platform because pretty much everyone in the game could fly one decently in 1 month of training, and a few of these in a fleet can really lay the pain on. Finally despite being very happy with my racial choice of minmatar, there is something in me that knows I will fly a blasterthron one day! 7 Heavy Neuts - yarrr!!

I'd recommend the ISD race the inspectorate frigate can passively tank 3m dps (by my calculations) without taking into account skills or mods. "If you had a gang of 81127 kestrals you could alpha strike Tranquility Server into a smoking hole in the ground" |

Toss out Caldari immediately? For SOLO pvp maybe. Gang warfare...a Cald gang of guys who know wtf they are doing arent any kind of pushover, particularly with the new Kali ships gained.
As to the Ops question, I would say the best stats you can come up with, then start looking around, OR just remain Amar, they are getting a boost soon according to the hdic.

me thinks someone should take some of their own advise as you clearly missed my point. naturally i read that bit as it's the part i frickin quoted muppet.
he said that caldari are useless in pvp and they are primarily support roles. my point is that support is a major part of pvp so how can they be useless in pvp but good support. has he not heard of support in pvp.

I never said anything about Caldari being useless for pvp. What I did say was that Caldari should be removed from the table immediately b/c most of their pvp ships are support ships, be it firesupport or EW support. This is especially true for someone wanting to learn pvp, the Caldari line is a poor choice of ships when learning the mechanics of pvp. Turret mechanics, drones, tackling, aggro, sniping, raiding, tanking, and ganking mechanics are best learned from the other 3 races, particularly the Minmatars and Gallentes.
So yes, if you are getting into pvp for the first time then you want a racial line that provides the most flexibility and greatest exposure to pvp mechanics. Not a racial line that's has niche roles.

Plus traveling in Scorp jamming your target and still being able to launch missiles at it is pretty awesome for solo pvp

that was the comment i was disagreeing with. for pvp caldari should not be tossed out immediately. yes most caldari ships struggle to solo with some exeptions but he never said he was going solo. caldari have some of the most effective pvp ships there are so should not be tossed out immediately. you said they have heavy support roles which is great as when learning to pvp, support is often the best way to learn.
caldari have the crow which is awesome for solo work, ecm ships which are awesome support ships, rokh is a veratile pvp ship but great as a heavy dmg dealer and many more.
no race should be tossed out immediately for pvp as they all have their strengths. that's all i was saying
