Ok, this really is annoying me.
I'm still in the tutorial. I bought some ammo in a far off solar system and am practicing using my autopilot.
So I hit autopilot like it said and my ship started moving away from the station at about 1\4 power. I manually increased it to max, then opened up the map. It does the usual zoom way out thing. For some reason the map window doesn't appear. Instead I get a little bar at the upper right that says Star Map, solar System, and close. Clicking star map and Solar system does absolutely nothing. Clicking on Close, makes the little bar dissapear, and the map lines dissapear, but I'm still zoomed way outside the galaxy. At max zoom the station is still just an icon, and reset camera doesn't do anything either.
Someone told me to hit the map icon, but all that does is make the little bar at the top right re-appear. Basically, nothing I do gets me out of map mode. I tried turning off autopilot but there was no change.
Anyway, what gives? Will I still be stuck like this when the server comes back up?

I've suffered the similar issue on a number of occasions now.... the only real fix is to restart the client. Even docking/undocking doesnt 'fully' fix the issue. Ok, you get back down to the ship level, but 'warping' graphics are all screwed up from this point on... and using the map again returns that same issue...

Try switching between the Star and System map modes before hitting Close. That should reset the map and allow it to close properly.

I guess it required a client reset, since nothing else worked. Resetting the client, or the server reset, seems to have fixed it.

This happened to me too. Clearing my cache (folder in EVE folder) fixed it for me, although I had to do it twice before finishing the tutorial. Since finishing, the problem has not, as yet, recurred.

I got the same problem and it's especially ennerving since I set my autopilot to avoid systems with recent podkills. So I can't fly to many systems at the moment and I can't change the settings without the map window.

Hold ctrl and roll the mouse wheel forward.
I have had this happen to me 2 times and doing that fixed it.
