Has there ever been an attempt at doing a beginner ship only (like the reaper or punisher, etc) mass battle / tournament?

Stella on ER used to do the Lemmings many moons ago, but I don't think there's anything now.
How about you step up and generate your own content? That's what the rest of us do. Put together an event and go trash some camp with 300 newb ships. I'd do it. |

I know Red vs Blue held a rookie ship FFA. I remember requesting the hulls and fitting the ships. The problem is that the Gal version lets you use 2 drones which can be over powering. This is especially true given the Velator hull bonuses of +20% drone damage and a bonus to active reps. It really is the strongest rookie ship. |

You're thinking too hard. If it's a swarm of newb ships, it doesn't matter. Just pick a place to go get in a fight, say Tama, and then go with your huge fleet of newbros.

Is it still a secret that you can t2 fit rookie ships?
Real rookie ships, now corvettes, such as reaper, ibis, velator and whatever poor old amarr call theirs but who cares because amarr.
Look at the grid n cpu they have now! Look at the bonuses! Look!
Ibis is now an embryo falcon. A well flown swarm of rookie ships has gotta be capable of something diverting.

Would be nice to have that from time to time. If this became an official event, it would prob help A LOT people to lose the fear of PVP.

test and goons used to do noob ship swarms when they started.
Back when i was an eve radio DJ (a very long time ago) The EVE Radio Army used to go out in noob ships and t1 frigs and just go **** around.
So yes it happens all the time
