This is the day where my parents say no to meat and yes to some crappy fish each year. Damn it i'm not even religious in anyway and yet i still have to put up with a stupid excuse for not eating meat. So is anyone up for going into a church while eating a big mac? --------------------------------------------- no sig for you !!! |

I'm pretty religious but I've never heard of this. I'm having spaghetti bolognese with minced beef tonight...

The truth.
I've never heard of being denied meat while still eating fish. I know certain meats (e.g: beef, lamb, etc) are forbidden on certain days of the week in some religions, but I didn't know there was anything Christians were not allowed to eat apart from each other.

My favourite quote ever: 'Religion, giving people hope in a world torn apart by religion'
So true.
PS: Nerfbat incoming for discussing religion. ----- My sparkly tinfoil hat is extremely distracting, and makes my eyes bleed. -Conuion Meow ([email protected]) Join channel 'Turby' or die! (bring pie) Actually... no, it was teh sig. I'm wearing tinfoil goggles already. -Teh Meow |

Great quote, reminds me of another favorite: "The bureaucracy has expanded to meet the needs of the expanding bureaucracy."

Interesting, I was of the opinion that religious discussion might be one of the things offtopic for this forum. I'll have a CRC check by and make sure noone is being bold.
Personally, today I am fasting, it is one of the two days of the year in which I fast, Good Friday, the other being Ash Wednesday. Many Catholics take this to be a day in which one abstains from alcohol and red meats, and limit themselves to one meal during the day, and/or 2 colations or small snacks.
Within many countries there used to be a tradition of avoiding meat on a Friday, any Friday, it was simply a small sign of sacrifice, as in doing without something once in a while is probably a good thing. Some people still adhere to this, while many do not since the guidelines differ from region to region.
As for not eating meat for one day, I think I'll survive just fine :)
