I heard somewhere that Eve attracts a slightly older player base -- is this true?
Just curious...I'm in my 30's myself.

Its been almost a year now I think, but the Devs have stated that the average player in EVE is 27 years old (probably based on the Account & Billing page)

Can't say if it's true or not but of the 7 EVE players I know in RL, the youngest is 31. Also there are quite a few "over thirty Corps out and about in EVE as well. I have no iodea how they could verify that however.

No idea of precise demographics of the player-base, except to say the presence of certain types of behaviour that is associated (not necessarily synonymous) with age, isn't as pronounced in Eve compared to other MMORPGs.
I myself am in my early(ish) 30s, as much as it pains me to admit - although I can get away with 28 (but not the v. late nights or hangovers which get worse with age).
As a tangent to the topic, age is just a number (except if one pulls a girl under the glare of UV lights, only to discover at the cloakroom that her age is "just" a number that could send your ass to jail - judge! sentence my ass!) as attitude is more important. The latter is not always synonymous with age.

I'm 28, and I play with people all my same age or higher. The oldest guy I play with is 46.

One of the best/worst things about EVE is the time it takes to progress to a stage where you can handle a tough battle or do the things you want to do well. The training times ARE ridiculous. However, I quite like the fact the training times are such a pain in the butt as they scare off most of the kids who are after instant gratification. They soon realise they can't immediately start playing at a high level and go back to their WOW. hahaha So it's great to see how many of us oldies (I'm 35) there are in game as we're the only ones with the patience... just ...and commitment to this great game.
Enjoy! And is that a grey hair I can see? Izz

Awesome, sounds like I'm one of the youngest guys here lol, I'm 18! I prefer Eve to a lot of other games for the same reasons, less immature chat, makes a nice change :)

Being 31 myself, I've known EVE players aging 65+ before I took a 1-year break.
One player I remember specificly, played EVE to keep in touch with 2 of his grandsons, whom moved from England to Canada, because their parents took aver a farm there.

Playing with some of my classmates, 16 is the age, so i guess we are pretty young for this game then?

nah 16 is fine if you handle yourself well. In this game more so than others you will find yourself under constant scrutiny about your actions and your maturity. Myself, I am 29, the majority of my corp mates fall in that general area.

Well it seems I win. I'm 13 and yes I do think Eve has a much older player-base than most MMO's. I have played WoW but find eve much more in-depth and overall just better. I also got my friend to play who is 14. But don't worry we are not the screaming, cursing, immature "little kids" most people think of.

Yep...saw an interview with a Dev and he said the average age of EVE players is 27. I'm 39 myself.

This game is quite deep and complicated when you start. I think that scares of the most "stupid" kids (and some adults aswell). Because of this its also my impression that most people that play EVE (atleast the ones that started without help from a friend) are quite clever. Altho seeing how many fall for the scams in Jita sometimes makes me think otherwise. Im quite sure EVE attracts an older crowd.
If EVE had dance emotes and other shallow gameplay im sure it would attract a different crowd :P

At 21, I think I'm the second youngest in my corp... bunch of successful middle-aged tarts play the rest of our toons.
CCP should re-take that poll...

Edited by: Madam Dinahkarr on 07/04/2007 23:13:03 16 on my end. I agree that the technical side of EvE keeps the game limited to people who are either looking for a complex game (such as myself) or people of an older age with better comprehension (not that I'm trying to imply that the older you are, the better you comprehend things. Whatever -- hopefully ya'll get my point.)

That post is damn good for a 16-year-old... which proves the point of the post, actually.
Let's face it, waiting is not something the immature are good at. After all, maturity is often measured by our ability to delay satisfaction. If staying up late against his parent's wishes is not going to get little Timmy that level 5 Learning faster, he'll drop it for an MMO where he can.
