Edited by: Rod Steel on 07/04/2007 01:23:50 How am I supposed to finish a mission when I can't lock onto a target because of this type of thing
pic1 pic2
The sad part is they can still fire on me, but I can't return fire. The same thing happens with the wrecks. I've had this occur sporadically on my last 4 missions. I also get a similar thing with acceleration gates. Anybody else having this problem?

Actually yes.. Though after I logged and rebooted it all was fine again..

Actually, that's almost how I had to finish the mission...I warped out, then warped back in, and I could target him. Sad way to finish a mission though, especially if it's 3 gates in that are 100km's from your arrival point.

There is a bug reporting thing for this...

Yeah.. I feel your pain.. It's the 6 year old client and the umpteenth number of patches to keep it alive.... CCP has *admited* this.. So all I can say is expect crap like this until the new client comes out in 08..

Won't help really. This one has been around for years now.

Edited by: Phoenix Lord on 07/04/2007 05:11:05 Its just when your client and the server are out of sync. So on the server youre actually x distance away, but on your client, you see yourself as y distance away.
Ive had this happen to me before.. except i warped out and the rats were shooting me from 9au away =.=

your point would be valid, Jesus, if new content would not be added to EVE in 6 years constantly. Sadly, there's a first law of software development - you fix a bug and something else breaks :( trust me, I know... bad bug nevertheless

This man speaks The Truth.
I think that CCP should implement some sort of a check pocket that gets sent between the server and client to check if the current state is consistent between both ends. Then send a delta pocket that puts things in sync if needed.
Sad thing is, it could be very easy to abuse this. Technically.

I have had this happen all the times with stargates, recently it also started happening with my drones, where I can't set them on a target that my overview says is well within operating range, very annoying.

If you're playing with 2 accounts in the same mission, the desyncing can be astounding.
I have a Megathron with 425mm rails, loaded with Iridium. It is being orbited by my alt's Pilgrim (lol PvE Pilgrim!). The Pilgrim has the last rat BS locked, nos'd, painted and webbed, and it pounding it with drones. The sensor boosted Megathron can't even lock it, cause it's '225,000m away'.
Genius.
