Hi, Strange that no-one should have ever experienced this... before I start a petition/bug report I wanted to ask if anyone had to deal with such problems himself.
I'd just like to report that the minimum of free cargohold space seems to be unreasonably high. I was salvaging and looting a recent mission and got the message that to salvage a medium sized wreck I needed to have at least 40 m3 of free cargohold space. Since the average salvaged items volume is 0.01 m3 this implies a number of up to 4000 salvageable items from a medium sized wreck. Since I started salvaging I'm sure none of my wrecks ever exceeded the number of 40 salvaged items. Considering previous to the patch the volume of salvaged items was 1.00 m3 I assume that the 40 m3 threshold was implemented with that exact numbers in mind. This however becomes a problem if you salvage and loot a high number of wrecks or the loot is rather voluminous. Did anyone else experience this and if so, it would be nice if the CCP staff would correct this issue with their next patch.

This is caused by the chance to salvage "metal scraps". Metal scraps are unreasonably huge and only give 10 trit each. When I'm salvaging, I just jettison them as a complete waste of space. I beleive they should be reduced to 1m3 each.

Yes, you got this message because the wreak you tried to salvage contained metal scraps, thus you did actually need that much space to salvage.

Not quite. There's a CHANCE to get metal scraps. Usually you get under 10m3 of components and no metal scraps, but because of that tiny chance of getting them you need 160m3 of space in your cargohold.

Well 1 BS want 160m3 space from me (got 16 metalscraps) another one dont need that, droped just 5 salvageable materials. Same happend with BC, cuiser etc.

You do not need 160 m3 of free cargo to salvage every wreak; you only need it to salvage wreaks that actually give 160 m3 of scraps. If that particular wreak only gives 10 m3 of parts, then you only need 10 m3. If it gives nothing, then you need no space at all.

As far as I am aware, this is not true. From what I recall, you need 160m3 of space to salvage wrecks that have a CHANCE to give 160m3 of scraps. If it says you need 160m3, you could still only get 10m3 of parts.

Getting the message is actually a sure thing that you will get that amount of salvage... And before recent patches Metal Scraps was actually useless (only had the option to scrap them) except for perhaps a rumor that certain very high level mission offers required them (In exchange for CNR's perhaps) - I'm a nice guy!! and OMG I love Team Tuxford for the speedbalancing... |

Huh? Nothing changed recently AFAIK with them; they are still useless. Unless you consider salvaging for 10 trit useful, and they have been doing that for ages.

Edited by: Blindbird on 13/04/2007 03:05:25 I get this message quite often. And it has nothing or very little to do with the actual amount of salvage you get from the wreck. When I say little or nothing, I mean when I jetison some junk to salvage it, I usually get maybe 1% of the loot I was warned I would be getting. This could be because the game does a check, still using the old salvage sizes or its just borked in general.. On a side note. Why is Scrap Metal so freaking bulky and yet so utterly worthless.. come one.. Its just a pain in the ass atm.. make it worth more or make it smaller or remove it from game. its worse than pointless, its annoying.

1) Metal Scraps, well suck, they weight to much should be worth at least 100 trit ( at least your talking about similar weights at that point ).
2) They should be worth something, lets use them to create something, perhaps towards invention.
Perhaps they should just be worth more, considering they weigh 1% of my cargo space ( 400 m3 ).
Ignore my math, I am tired, so just insert correct numbers. Point is they are worthless and I had to throw away 63 units into a jet can yesterday.

WRONG
If the wreck you salvage COULD possibly need 160m for the potential salvage you might get, you need 160m free cargo space.
Practically, that means that every time you try to salvage a "Generic Mission Battleship Wreck" and you have less than 160m of free cargo space, the salvage cycle WILL NOT START. _ MySkills | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |
