Maybe somebody can help me here.
Every single time I open up eve, everything goes beautifully. I have my graphics set at 1280 X 1024 because that's the max my screen can go to. All goes well till about an hour into my gaming routine where eve just slowes down to a halt and then my computer shuts down. Now yea maybe it my graphics card heating up too much but I have an ATI Radeon 1950 XTX (which seriously can handle oblivion at 1600-1200 and still work fine). I threw out the idea that it was my graphics card and I was right. I found out it was my CPU overheating.
What I do not understand is that i have a E6600 from Intel not overclocked and it idles at 20 degrees in my case. (In the basement and uber fan and heatsink on it) How can eve a game that was first released a LONG time ago be overheating my CPU to 30 degrees and making my pc safe-shut-down??? Considering that Oblivion, a game that came out recently enough, a game that is MUCh more difficult on your hardware to run, does not make me crash and I can safely idle at like 35 ingame and outside?
Maybe somebody can help me because I've checked some posts and some people run this on like P3's and P4's and they have never had this problem....

Yeah i have the same problem too. I play counterstrike source (much more demanding in graphics etc imho)i get 55 degrees C on my laptop and when i fire up EVE after like 20 mins my CPU goes to 90degrees C. I have to stop to let it cool. In idle i get 40 degrees C.
I have an AMD 1800 with 1024mb ram and a geforce go 6200 256mb

Edited by: Free 2 on 15/04/2007 12:29:54 Edited by: Free 2 on 15/04/2007 12:29:18 Problem is with eve coding. The client consumes so much cpu power in many single core pc's it runs a constant 90-100% usage without even starting the game itself but purly the client. In my E6600 i have a constant 55% usage over both cores which pretty much gives an impression of the power the client needs.
Regarding your problem i had my p5b updated with a newer version of the bios and since then eve would run a big part of the time only on 1 core @ 100% and leaving the other one almost idle. THis caused 1 core to heat up badly and instantly on startup made eve stutter in station every few secs (starting with sound hickups). I downgraded the bios again and all was back to normal. Perhaps you should check if you have similar signs of eve running on 1 core only, cos that's not what is supposed to do.
Note eve doesn't actually support 2 cores itself so it doesn't utilize the cpu potential but it still should use both cores (inefficiently). Btw, while typing this on my 2nd screen eve's cpu consumption dropes from 55% to a only 10% and it just keeps running at the same fps on my other screen while shooting BS rats. I understand windows pushes it's juice to the active screen but the fact eve runs just as well with 10% cpu usages as with 55% says enough i'd think.
