Boredom strikes along with its sidekick insomnia!
Whats your favorite movies and what makes em your favorite movies.
Older films: T2 for sure, the music and the mix of action+humor made it an excellent film. (I would choose Star Wars but this goes without saying, Star Wars is win by default)
More Recent: Serenity. This was a nexcellent combo of Humor+Action all wrapped in sci-fi spaceship goodness, awesome awesome movie.
Newest favorite: 300. Nuff said.

Peter Jackson's LOTR (pure epic movies everything about them shows love for the origianl book) along with the original three Star Wars (we owe A New Hope a lot).
Hackers is a quality movie (Angelina's bobbies are on display) as are Alien (best horror ever, still scares the crap out of me) and Aliens (pure action with some quality comedy).
Full Metal Jacket (my favorite war movie of all time, I think this is because of the personal stories that it follows) and Serenity (no need to comment on this one) are quality movies along with the Back To The Future trilogy (comedy gold plus).
I am looking forward to the new Die Hard and Transformers this summer.

from classics, Alien series is by far the favourite movie(s) for me. Aliens (2) being the best
from new ones? hard to say, haven't seen a decent movie in years... but 300 was quite good

No arguement here, Alien quadrilogy was awesome. 2 also being my favorite, which is also the same among the masses i suppose.

My all time favourite would be Jacob's Ladder
Some brilliant moments and quotes during this movie.
"Eckhart saw Hell too. He said: The only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won't let go of life, your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away. But they're not punishing you, he said. They're freeing your soul. So, if you're frightened of dying and... and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth."
My favourite scene when he hurts his back and he is being wheeled through the hospital in a gurney. The surrounding hospital begins changing from pristine tiles and floors to litter and junk to bloody and raving demons hes eventually strapped down in an operating theatre and confronted by a faceless doctor.
Jacob Singer: Jezzie? Get me out of here. Evil Doctor: Where do you want to go? Jacob Singer: Home. Evil Doctor: Home? This is your home. You're dead. Jacob Singer: Dead? No. I just hurt my back, I'm not dead. Evil Doctor: What are you, then? Jacob Singer: I'm alive. Evil Doctor: Then what are you doing here? Jacob Singer: I don't know. [crying] Jacob Singer: Something's happening. Evil Doctor: What IS happening? Jacob Singer: Get me out of here. Evil Doctor: There is no out of here. You've been killed, don't you remember?
Jacob then wakes up and his whole family are around his bed. Overjoyed he breaks into tears "Oh thank god" he cries "It was just a dream" and then the disembodied voice speaks eerily into his ear "Dream on"
brilliant movie, only gets better after watching it a few times and it all makes perfect sense.

Most of my favourites are war movies because that's what my dad always had me watching. Full Metal Jacket is my all time favourite. Platoon and Hamburger Hill were great too. Braveheart is another I never get tired of watching.
As for classic movies...I'm gonna go with Patton. George C. Scott's performance was awsome in that one. I have to mention Kelly's Heroes, The Longest Day, The Sand Pebbles, and the Dirty Dozen as well though.
Of the more modern movies, I loved Pan's Labyrinth, Little Miss Sunshine, V for Vendetta, Snatch, the Proposition, The Departed, and The Matrix.

Left all the quote in as trhe man is so right. Nice to see others with taste.
My favourite scene is where Jacob is in the hospital bed and his (ex?)wife and kids are there. It's the bit where the disembodied voice says "Dream on" and the tear runs down his cheek.

Has everything i like in a film, people tend to forget about it, self included.
Stunning everytime i see it though... Forget the sequel, it's realy bad, has non of the fire and passion of the first film. ______

You haven't seen Requiem for a dream, have you? Now that movie touched me in profound ways, I remember I just sat and stared at the screen for an hour after the credits rolled, unable to compose a single thought.

I have and I enjoyed it but given some things I've seen it didn't have all that much of an emotional impact on me. Still, a great film.
