I'm just starting L4 missions and I'm wondering just how useful NOS are. Do they really make that much difference?

not as much as in pvp but yeah, nos are usefull in missions, even if they sometimes (at least it feel like since those rats still tank nboost like maniacs) dont affect the rat, they still do feed your cap and where i come every bit capacitor is gold worth

I have found that when I NOS a NPC ship, its repair/boost cycle slows down if not stops. So yeah NOS is useful in missions, just not an OMGIWB as it is in PvP.

yep i have to agree, it is useful, but not essential. it deppends on the setup you are going for as well, but say for my raven i slap in a TS heavy nos, the reason for TS, well if your in a battleship using a heavy nos your gonna want to be Nos-ing other BS. not many of hte heavy NOS actually have a range thats big eough to be effective on most missions, so if you are gonna get one make sure it has a big range :D

Until the recent mission changes, NOS served little purpose, as most sensible mission setups will perma-tank.
However, at least one level 4 mission - Cargo Delivery - has NOSing battleships, and when you're being NOSed by 4 of these at once, it is nice to be able to NOS them back. I have not yet risked this mission without using NOS.

Nos is situationaly valuable. Because of short range I use it mostly on frigates orbiting me to insure my permatank, and to down battleship tanks after I'm done taking out the trash.
If you've got 3x CCC rigs, I'd say fit the drone range mod and some kind of projectile weapon instead. Otherwise it goes into the 'every little bit helps' category. Fit it if you have the spare powergrid and have nothing better to put in a high slot.
As far as cargo delivery -- run it in an assault frig with a cap booster. Run in, grab the loot, align, boost, warp out.

I fly it with a slasher...zip in, take goods, zip out, finish...
But i use mostly 2 NOS on my Raven just for the "fun"...2 guns don't make that difference at all... --

Edited by: Dolly Parton on 10/04/2007 18:19:51 ^^ up there
i run 2 lasers on my raven, so much pg why not, can pop the frigs with them and not have to worry about drone/full room aggression and don't have to waste precision cruise on a frig
i use to do the nos, but my set up no need never have cap issues unless i turn on xl booster and go take a crap. 3 CCC rigs, 2 PDS II and Cap Recharger II (faction better lower cpu) - you should never need to nos anything pve related.

Edited by: Drachma Golea on 12/04/2007 19:02:40 I can keep my tank perma running on a deimos without activating my blasters, if I activate my blasters eventually my cap will run dry bcause of my tank in combination with the blasters, so I use 1 nos to fill the gap for the cap usage of my blasters

Suppose it depends on the mission. My Domi has enough cap to tank most missions and the ones it can't the NOS is too short range. I'd rather use the slots for another gun (I have a rack of 250mms for a bit extra punch).
That said I can see sense if the NPCs NOS you, but then cap booster may work better in that circumstance.

If you run out of cap while tanking then NOS helps alot. Unless you know exactly what you're doing i'd advice it to fit at least one, better two on every raven setup. You wont get much cap out of frigs and cruiser, BS however give quite some cycle. -------------------------------------- Agent & Mission-Info: http://www.eveinfo.com Evewide Market-Info: http://eve-central.com/ |
