The hour is late and EvE is actualy an old game - with veterans that can eat you for breakfast if you come even near 0.4 space ! Unfortunatley I payed that with my battlecruiser - but thats life in EVE :D 4 years have passed since EvE launch and new players still flock to it.
Anyway - what kept me in game is strong comunity ! Rookie channel - perfect ! Most dumb noob questions were answered in there.
Finding a noob friendly corp that sole purpose is helping lost players like me ? Just what the doctor ordered.
And then - a SHOCK !
These people have lottery ! BIG was celebrating 100th game - needless to say I lost every ISK in there and smiled all the way :D
Little later discovered EvE Radio - now thats whats playing on my job. Good RnR is just what you need in dull 8 hour - kill me please - grind at work ...
So yeah - its a mix of things all connected to comunity that realy kept me in game. Sure the game is great, but comunity is awsome :D
And yes - I am one of defects from WoW. What can one say - its kindergarden od MMOs. Surved its purpose with first stepes - now its time to play something a bit more seroius ...

Edited by: Spartus Raile on 11/04/2007 12:02:22 Indeed, its all about community for me, EVE can be a little dull at times, the monotomy of mining good ole' veldspar drives me coo-coo-crazy sometimes, but I just chat the time away in my corp. I fear that if I hadn't found this corporation my stay in EVE wouldn't have lasted much longer than the free trial.
I love your sig Chribba (it changes all the time :P, cool)

simply put...no other mmorpg...and i mean NO OTHER..offers the kind of in depth and exciting PvP system that this game has.
no other game even comes close!! this is the best game for pvp mmorpgs
but not only that....its economy is like no other either..with it pretty much being player run..its almost like real life economy.
and although people hate pirates..me included....they provide another aspect to the game that makes it soo much fun and challenging...and realistic!
basically....EVE ftw.....all other mmorpg's are just pretenders

I liked the atmosphere and set myself what looked like silly unattainable goals never to be reached in a million years
Own and fly a Bhaalgorn (Not have to do it well undocking is enough at the moment)
Own and fly a Damnation
I just worked myself towards them and enjoyed the ride. I have hit my first goal, and a few weeks off my second. but its ok now I have plenty of good chaps to fly with these days

Quite a few different things really. One of the most important things is the community. It just seemed friendlier and more mature than other games. You could ask questions and get answers without been made to feel like an idiot.
Also I like the way you can do what you want when you want. Theres no fixed classes so you aren't just bound to a few different professions.

Edited by: Effy Arrtee on 11/04/2007 14:36:23 I disagree, the community is not awesome.
They are always moaning about somethng. And don't dare make a mistake in the game cause all they will do is laught at you.
Corp theft - your fault for not using the tools available. Fooled by a scammer - your fault for not reading the small print. Just been blobbed in losec - learn to fly noob.
Nah, the community in Eve is no better and no worse than any other online comminity of its size.

Good frikkin' question. Sometimes I wonder myself.
I was originally drawn to the game because of the size and expansiveness of the universe. I committed to spend a month just exploring to see what there was to see. After a while I got serious about wanting to get good at a part of it so I set some goals and have been pursuing them ever sense.
So, I'm the type of person who's driven by accomplishment. Eve gives me a gaming environment where I can continue to develope over time. Plus they add new content continuously so, after four months, the experience still feels fresh.
But I've thought of walking many times (one of the reasons I haven't is becuase of all the time I've invested up to this point. That's the main driver for the growth of almost all MMOGs). Experienced users forget how unfriendly Eve is for the newbie. It's a place where everyone can squash you like a bug for months and weeks at a time (and will if you give them half a chance).
I lucked into a friendly group of players early on. Otherwise I'm sure I'd be playing something else right now.

But Eve is also well balanced in such a way that often a relative noob of a few months can eat veteran for breakfast.
Plus - a lot of the veterans SP are in skills that aren't used at a given moment.
being a veteran gives u a lot more variety (ships or several races or specializations etc...) - or several different roles (producer, researcher, etc...).
A dedicated "Noob" knowing what he's doing in a well fitted ship can be very dangerous to a veteran (who gets no use out of most of his SP in production, assault ships, mining, EW, missiles etc.. while sitting in his railgun battleship).
There is no win button in Eve.

but in your example, a "dedicated noob in a well fitted ship who knows what he's doing" isn't a noob... isn't he by definition just "new"? cuz i always figured that a noob was someone who didn't know what was going on, how it was going on, or even try to figure out what was going on. but.. maybe that's just me.

Simplicity.
Makes this newb hang around, not detracting from anybody else or thing, allways look to yourself, figure what you can gain from it.
Essence, but what is most meaningful, should be the pinnacle of all of us.
Relating that to how you go about yourself in eve is as easy as anything else in life if your remain true to yourself.
