Hi all!
I was wondering what do stats do? I meen which ones would I need primarily for mining/manufacturing? For peaceful skills that is?

the only thing attributes effect is the time it takes to train skills. It is my opinion that one should go with as even spread stats as possible, as 15 months from now you may no longer want to train for what you initially did, and having an even distribution will give you consistent training times across the board, thus giving you a more efficient character. -=^=-

Each skill has an associated primary and secondary stat.
The higher those stats the faster you train the skill.
Primary has twice the effect in reducing training time that a secondary stat does.
Intelligence and Memory are the main stats for pure mining/ manufacturing with Perception and Willpower slightly less important. Charisma is usually the least important stat.
Low stats just mean longer training times.
Just touching on the basics but does that help?

You need to balance everything. DO NOT go trying to bump one or two attributes to astronomical levels while crashing the rest. Getting a few points out of balance is OK (you will probably have to) but donÆt get extreme with it.
Your attributes only affect the training times for skills; your skills are what affect your characters interaction with the game. Perception, for example, might let you learn gunnery skills faster but it wonÆt directly affect your ability to shoot.
There are 5 attributes and you need skills that rely on all of them. The way the math works out a high attribute doesnÆt help you as much as a low attribute hurts. Everyone starts with a set number of points distributed over all 5 attributes. If you have a high attribute you must have one or more low attributes to make up for it. I believe everyone gets 39 points, so perfect balance would be 8,8,8,8,7
(This is an incredibly simplified example. All skills have a primary and secondary attribute with the primary being twice as important as the secondary. But this will explain how the math works out and why you should balance things.)
Imagine that someone has an average attributes of ô8ö and that a particular skill took 10 hours to complete. Another person decided to bump that attribute up to ô16ö so they train faster. Since they have twice the points in that attribute they train the skill twice as fast and finish it in 5 hoursà
Not bad. Except to do this they had to take ô4ö points from two other attributes making them both ô4ö since this is half of ô8ö it will take then twice as long (20 hours) to train similar skills that rely on their low attributes. If each character trains one skill relying on each attribute the balanced character will finish in 30 hours. The unbalanced one will finish in 45 hours.
Bottom line is, balance your characters.
Now, some professions can get away with making Charisma their low attribute because not much relies on it. But in your peace loving professions you will probably need it more than a pure combat character. You will need all of the other four.
One other thing you need to understand. Counting the advanced learning skills you can easily add 9 points (advanced to IV, as V takes to long for the return) plus another 10% from the learning skill itself. Add in +4 attribute raising implants (not cheap but something you can easily get in time) and youÆve added +13 +10% to every attribute. This will tend to cancel out some of the problems with being a bit unbalanced at start.
For what you want I would say thatà Memory = 9 Intelligence = 9 Perception = 8 Willpower = 7 Charisma = 6 à would be a good goal, although you probably canÆt get that exactly.
And, get a name you like and a picture/race you like as well. Ultimately ôraceö is just about roleplaying and has little game effect, outside of its limits on starting attributes. But, it might be worth it to sacrifice optimum attributes just for a picture/race/backstory you feel comfortable with.

Ahhh the ole min/max discussion hehe...
Anyways, these folks answered the question. It's all about reducing your training times.
Charisma is the most debated stat. Int/memory is great for reducing the training times for the learning skills, while Perc/Will is important for your drone/gunnery skills, and a mix of the four for the rest.
Charisma is for your social skills. This lets you do less missions for a higher rating, get more reward on missions and leadership skills... Leadership skills are important for fleet operations as it allows for potionally serious increases in combat effectivness of your group. Yeah, on 1 person, you can increase his shield by say, 1000... but in your group of 10, that is 10,000 more shields combined. That is a lot of shield to blow through.. :P
Of course, there are far less charisma based skills than the others.
Basic rule of thumb, if you are unsure of what you want to do, keep it semi balanced... that way, life isn't too hard.
If you feel the need to be a part of something bigger, follow the path. |
