I was sitting in Hek, pretty much hauled everything system to region that was worth it, so decided to check for hauls to the Citadel and start working a new area. Checked Eve Central and it said there was some Heavy Water nearby @~300 and someone buying at the Citadel @~360.
When I arrive and go to unload my cargo. Nooone is buying anywhere near 360 and no station close by is either. So, I make a sell order at 360 for 3 months and let it sit, hoping whoever was buying, will buy again.
Is there anything I could have done different? |

Last time I checked, EVE Central was only updated every 30 mins or so (I think) so it won't be completely accurate. Many other players use it to do what you're doing as well, so there is always a chance someone will beat you to it.
One thing you could try is using a very fast ship to head to the region to confirm the prices before you spend your ISK and send your hauler out. Or you could buy large quantities of commodities in advance (at prices that you know are very good) then send them out from a central location when you see a high buy order.

Yes.
Now that we have free forever alts, make as many as you need to park one in each region and major trade hub. Then, when you do as Pix suggested and buy a bunch of stuff real cheap, just cycle through all your alts and see where you can sell for the best price.

There are 86,400 seconds in a day. You just saved one of them by typing 'u' instead of 'you'.-á Congratulations, dumbass!

Is there anything I could have done different? Maybe.
Coming from Hek and if you stayed in hi sec, your first system in The Citadel probably was Kassigainen (10 jumps from Hek). Considering that you started your journey with potentially outdated data (I assume you know the column "Reported Time" on EVE-Central) you could have checked the orders for Heavy Water ingame, making sure the buy order is still valid.
Upon reaching your target system and realizing that there were no good buy orders in The Citadel, you should have checked for alternatives, instead of putting up a sell order. Jita is bordering to the Citadel and is the biggest trade hub in the game and is selling Heavy Water @366 atm. Probably worth the extra jumps.
Checking EVE-Central there's one sell order in The Citadel @360 in Eitu. I very much hope that this isn't yours, because in that case you really should have gone to Jita (fewer jumps, better price). Also 23 jumps for 1.4m before tax and fees is not a good investment of time and effort in the first place.
