So, I know it is dangerous to talk about such things but, is there a way to run Eve offline. With this there are many ways to take it like playing eve with no internet (multiplayer and all) which is not possible so to clearify I am meaning playing Eve single player to the extent that there is no other player in the game as well as no internet capabilities. Seeing as how this is not possible with the standard launcher I have a few sub questions...
1.) is the X3 series the only viable clone of Eve?
2.) Is there any Eve offline
3.) has anyone managed to use the downloaded files (all 3 or 12 Gigs) and some "mods" to make Eve work offline or Ping to a self created server?
With 3 it would involve "hacking" to force the launcher to verify the fake client as real but... in theory it would work... Anyways, why I bring this up is the fact I like Eve, but don't like the multiplayer or pvp or any player-player interaction. The mechanics of Eve are fun and sadly most are unique to Eve.
Most will think this is a complaint of being killed by players but it is not, more of a "used to every other game that has set rules" as well as not wanting to rely on players for everything/being limited by them. Also, it would be nice to be able to play Eve without needing an internet connection since some places don't allow you to play it while others are prone to power outages...
Anyways... Is there any way to play an Eve offline? CCP could make one easy enough, shrink the number of systems or something, and charge that well known price of $60. |

Not to my knowledge. Part of what makes Eve Eve is the constant danger of other players.

I think X3 is about as close to "single player EVE" as your going to get. |

The server code is not available to the public, at least officially, and the client don't has an offline mode. So, no. Why would you want to do this anyway? Eve without other players is not very engaging. |

The closest you will get is the Singularity server (see: test server)

What is running on the client is, for the most part, graphical and support. The server is what does all the calculations and "heavy work."

CCP tends to ban people over that.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh... the multiplayer aspect of EVE pretty much makes up the majority of the game. Hell... most of the mechanics are based around player interaction.
Sure, you have NPCs and missions and escalations... but they only make up a fraction of the overall game. And without any players you have no one to sell to (note: only a handful of things are bought or sold by NPCs).
And some of the things you can build in this game require MASSIVE amounts of man hours to complete (because they were designed with massive amounts of players in mind).
How did you Veterans start?

Former X3 player here, came here, never looked back. But if you like single player space economy / combat simulation the older games X3:TC/AP are still the best you can get.
EvE is more a "second life" in space than a classic game, almost everything requires players to work or even exist like the market, the mission and PvE parts are minimalistic. EvE would be an empty shell without real people. This is unlike games like Elite:Dangerous with no real economy simulation, where NPCs can substitute players.
I'm my own NPC alt.
