Hey Yamichi, these were my ideas - please save a cheerleader for me!

With respect, I don't know that it is in fact impossible. Like Emylissan I too have landed a Panther on the planets of Elite 2. That game came on floppys, and ran on a 486. Implemented in a handful of megabytes, on a 50MHz machine. CCP could easily take similar approach and build a real universe based on controlled variations from a set of planetary and stellar models. It has some physics already (speed, acceleration, deceleration, collisions). Gravity can be modelled simply. Atmospheric effects and clouds might be more challenging, but look at what is done with water in EQ2, Vanguard. Look at the sheer beauty that has been achieved in some of the zones in fantasy MMOs, in Norath, in Azeroth, in Telon: screen shots and vids available across the web. It can be done now, much of it. It’s a choice for CCP. A choice we might influence, via these boards? We can try..
Elite 2 came on ONE DD(720k) floppy. And it worked on an amiga 1200 with 2MB ram and 14MHz processor. It did run much better on a 486DX with 4MB ram though.
One major problem is that while Elite 2 gave it all for having "real" physics (except when the autopilot was engaged) and had no practical max speed. In eve there's a max speed instead.
I think it's possible, and I'd love it as well, but I'd rather have CCP hire an entirely new team to implement this than take people off the sadly needed fixing of the current bugs.
More things I want:
I want to buy a couple of thousand of slaves, land on a lush uninhabited planet out in the middle of nowhere and start a colony for them and collect tax (resources of course).
Systems where you need a capital exploration ship to travel to because there are no gates. And of course resources in them. And maybe some way of trading with the possible non space faring natives living there.
