Ok for the record, if the real reason that the Snowballs were melted was because a Newb shot back, the dev's deserve to be shot. They provided a great deal of empire stress relief without the cause for hardship on any other party (i.e. collateral loss from a ship popping) they were also excellent macro-miner killing equipment. I plead with you PLEASE UN-MELT my snowballs.

I was saving mine to get a nice vintage on them. Ended up selling them on auction. Couldn't be bothered carrying them around whenever I moved anymore.

One reason for the melt was to fix a problem they had. They released snowballs one year and nothing the next. When they released none, people started buying them so they could have some fun, thus the snowballs and launchers had value. Then some GMs decided to give out tens of thousands of snowballs to random people so they could have some fun - an innocent act that was taken advantage of. Within minutes, there were posts on the forum selling upwards of 30k snowballs each for a lot of isk. Melting all snowballs quells the complaints of misuse by GMs. Really, all they were trying to do was give people a little fun.
As you said, another reason was newbies firing back. Some people went as far as to jettison a container, renaming it "you" and warp scrambling it as they fired snowballs at targets in high sec. To some people, it would seem that they were getting warp scrambled and attacked and that they were in the right to retaliate. In fact, they would get concorded and from what I hear, people using the container "trick" get punished.
One big reason I suspect was considered is the fact that they were being used out of season - that if you get shot with a snowball in the middle of june, you might not twig on that it's a snowball and might fire back when it's not appropriate. I suspect that the main reason for the melt was to let people know that snowballs are just a fun little christmas event thing and we could get more next christmas, which we now know will melt afterward so we can have fun with them instead of hoarding or selling them.

easiest way to solve the hording etc, is seed them cheap, great isk sink, and alot of fun at the same time, swap out for season, summer water guns, winter (* 6 month season in canada) snowballs. |

I remember getting hit by my first snowball. It was a Raven that followed me into a belt. I was 1 month old. He locked and fired and I thought I was gonna die!
Good fun.
Good thing I didn't have auto target on.

Well said, well said. i mean with world of warcraft they need something to keep them amused. All it is a grinding game /end rant (before it gets out of hand)
But yes when my frend shot me with his snowball and told me that my ship would blew up in 15 minutes i panicked a little bit, but i think ever game needs its "easter eggs"

i never got to fire any. I was saving them for a special occasoin, but then they spoiled it all by melting them without giving me the chance to try them out. I was very disappointed tbh

I liked the snowballs. I have a few launchers and a handful of melted piles of water :(
I remember one day, undocking and all my corpmates targetting me. I was like "zomg what did I do0!?" And they were like "MERRY CHRISTMAS" snowflakes all over the place! :D
Then I ran to Oursurlaert and joined in the massive snowball fight at one of the gates.

I was saving my snowballs to take on Antiques roadshow. Them getting melted is a load of balls IMO.

Exactly guys give me back my snowballs what am gona fit in the next alliance tounament if there si no snowballs, they were esential part each of my tournament fitings and after the third one they become more like tradition for me so please give me back my snowballs atleast some for the next tournament

Buck you allways was a strange man. I didn't know you had 100 balls, and I am wondering why you are wanting them refrozen. That means your balls got melted at some point (OUCH). And I don't know about you guys, but I try to keep my balls away from extreme sources of heat and cold.

that should freeze em :D

When i first started eve back in sumemr of 2006 i was in placid low sec at a gate when a pirate in a interceptor jumped in and started shooting me with snowballs, i warped to a belt and ended up scramd and dead :) The snowballs were good fun though.

The can must be insulated. Instead - place them on your trophy rack (alongside the frozen corpses)

Coulda made them have infinite ammo, like civilian weapons. Give everyone a launcher, and make them only usable for the winter period.
Least thats what I'd have done.

I loaded up the hound and went nuts . They make one hell of a nice splash. And its really cool to see black smoke coming from a snowball launcher. My regret was that I ran out of ammo.

I miss my snowballs
I remember getting them as a newb. I thought they were awsome fun having snowball fights outside Ours III. I kept my snowballs till the melted but sold my launcher for 300k (well, that was alot of isk to me at the time  ). Then the evegrinch stole mine. Hope we get them again next year. Make them unsellable so ebil unscrupulous Mr Scrooge's cant make profit off our innocent fun & maybe have to throw some themselves

Maybe if CCP does this again every account gets a launcher in their cargo hold (or hangar of nearest station). They need no ammo and are unlimited. They work from December to March and if you get attacked by one a pop up comes up and it says how it is not a real attack and it causes no harm its just a joke. If you use a real gun for retaliation you will be attacked by Concord.

I recently looted and salvaged a ship that had just litterally been destroyed as I warped into the system, was the first one to it, :D got 100 melted snowballs, but can't even use them :/ Oh well, maybe they'll refreeze them this winter :D
