I've always pronounced it as if you start saying neee-aww, but then after a tiny fraction of a second, say ock-ee
So sort of nyock-ee

I have good metabolism so the misses and I eat anything greasy as hell. try this out. Sautee with some olive oil, 4 cloves of garlic and proscuitto (sp? that ham like stuff). If you kinda crisp em by leavin em in too long it gives em kinda the crunchy outside soft inside. pretty good stuff

Well, I at a LOT of Gnocchi in college...very easy to make. And you can make so many different easy sauces with it
- Plain tomato sauce - Arrabiata (tomato and chilly) - Cream sauce with or without mushrooms - Plain olive oil and fresh parmesan cheese (sounds bad, but it's the best sauce ever) - Olive oil, cherry tomatos, salt, pepper, basilic and some parmesan cheese...very healthy.
Most of the time I went for #4 because I was lazy, hurrying up for some fleet fight, drunk/stoned as hell, or just didn't have the ingredients for anything else. _______________________________________________

main thing to remember is that when you cook the gnocchi, cook it first time on simmer until they rise to the surface then straight into iced water. all that remains is to then reheat them. this method seems to even out the cooking process.
recipe
800g pontiac, deiree or kipfler (best for gnocchi imo) potatoes 2 egg yolks 80g unbleached plain flour nutmeg salt chives (optional extra) either drizzle potatoes with olive oil and roast at 200C for 45-60 min's until tender/ or boil. puree by fork or sieve/mouli, not a food processor as it makes them gluggy. quickly mix egg yolks into puree with a spoon. add the flour, salt and freshly ground nutmeg to puree. combine using hands. dough should be smooth and elastic. (80g may not be enough flour, keep adding till desired consistency) cook in simmering water till they rise to surface...
favourite sauce is 4 cheese: best quality parmesan, fontina, italian gorgonzola, gruyere or a mozzarella and cream.

It's an italian food item, so it is pronounced Niokki not nookie or nokkhi. I'm italian so I know.
Best sauce for gnocchi is either a rich basil tomato sauce or a butter and cream based one. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm -
