I was happily sat outside a station observing the surroundings, and decided to dock. Once inside it dawned on me that the station looks 10x bigger inside than outside.
I'm just wondering what technology is used for that??, And will it be the same when were walking in stations?
Also the question i've been meaning to ask since the announcement is..... can you actually control you avatar, or is it going to be like a menu tell your character to check out, and he/she walks to the dock, does thier salute (very cheesy) like in the vid, an then your ship comes out of the station then you gain control once again.
But yeah main question, wtf do they use to make things shrink once your inside a station..

Its actually a long standing issue with the client, which is part of the reason for the Trinity graphics update, due sometime in 2008. Thats why the Chimera is so laughable ---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|--- This isn't the signature you're looking for. |

The real problem lies in technical difficulty of making objects in 3D space game look big. You can say that pretty much all space ships in EVE look like little toy ships. Stations look big, but not as big as a real station should be.
Why is that? You can't fool the eyes by assigning big numbers to virtual distances in 3D. And you can't simply magnify a 3D object to make it look bigger, cause then it'll just look like a toy ship really close.
Making stuff inside stations look real-sized is actually much, much easier. In stations you don't need to deal with 100 km distances and sizes.

It can't be that hard to double, maybe even triple the size of a station though, jus look on the high res stations on the vid. They look MASSIVE... now if the high res client is going to have realistic stations, will the low res client (for the stone age PC's) be updated the same ?

By all accounts it will be, just not quite as detailed.
The biggest part of the upgrade will be mainly to use any and all features of the dx9 series, atm (iirc) the engine is based on dx8.xx.
The dx10 engine, is going to mostly use features that have been improved on, but basically the same as dx9.
Detals will be the main part of it and by all accounts it is teh sex. ----------------------------

Simple. Its very, very cold in these stations. So cold that even my collection of frozen corpses stays frozen. We all know that stuff shrinks when its cold.
Unfortunately though it seems it wasn't quite cold enough for snowballs *no pun intended* --
