I wanted feedback and to know if this is actually possible or not
Say you have a fleet of 31 ships.
Twenty of those are fitted with tracking link IIs and tanks, ten are fitted with target painters and speed, and the last ship is a Moros with dual 1000mm railguns and the other slots completely stuffed with tracking computers and enhancers. The rigs are trimarks for an armor buffer, along with an explosive resist.
My question is: Could this massively stacked tracking bonus on the moros (from the tracking links), combined with ten speedy target painters painting a target, allow a dreadnought to hit cruiser or even frigate-sized targets? Could this pure tracking glasscannon be realistically (up to a point) used for POS defence as a static super-emplacement, along with carrier reps and such? |

Not sure if you can get a sieged dread to hit frigs. However, assuming it is possible, you wouldn't need that many supporting ships because of stacking penalties. |

It was an interesting theory excerscise so I played around in EFT a bit and short answer with any kind of transversal no not even with blasters.
I tried about 12 Oneiros tracking links |

Assuming peope would not try to move, and not call in super-cap suooprt for the sieged dreds; Exellent idea!!

You can't apply any remote effects to a sieged dread. This includes ECM, sensor damps, RR, remote sebo's, remote tracking links and so on. Without siege dreads do less dps than a typical BS. That said, your idea isn't completely without merit. I had one very clever fellow recently try to kill one of my abaddons by undocking a rev and a triple web ashimmu after I shot one of his corp mates in a BS. He was able to track me pretty well even though I was only 5km away. Thankfully said abaddon has about 350k EHP so I was able to tank that rev, the ashimmu and his BS buddy for the full minute and simply redock.
Expanding on that idea with a target painter ship and someone a little more squishy than me would work pretty well I suspect. You are risking a dread to kill a few BS/BC's though, so from a risk/reward standpoint it's probably not a very good idea. But it should work until one of your targets pops the inevitable cyno. |

Try 2 long range tornadoes and 1 scimi with 4 tracking links. Hilarity as you pop frigs from 200 km. |

you cant tracking link a sieged dread. but yes, a sieged dread can hit cruisers quite nicely when they are webbed and painted.
See here for an example:

Well with xl pulse and a slightly wonky setup my rev can already hit cruisers somewhat effectively on its own and anything above cruiser is 3 volleys or less two for the moros so we already have these no need for a new ship |

Just to all those above talking about sieged dreads:

well if it isnt sieged, who the hell cares? just use a BS since they do the same DPS. |

You would be crazy to do this just to bring a dread to a subcap fight. Some people do use dreads effectively against subcaps (there's a guy who runs a solo moros in lowsec effectively) but all in all they are an effective anti-structure weapon and nothing else.
You could theoretically cyno a dread in at 250km range and use, eg, rail Moros or arty Nag or beam Rev. You would have c. 1800-2000 DPS, an an alpha of c. 16-20K, which is only double a sniper nado and 6 x sniper nagas (as an aside, whoever is claiming 250km sniper Tornados is mentally deficient, as they are just just not effective at those ranges). That's in siege, out of siege you have 150 DPS....luls?
You would be stuck there for 5 minutes - and a ceptor will be on you in 30s. Even a MWD BC will be on you before you can get out of siege at 250km - a 4.5min burn. This is without anyone warping in stages from a celestial or dropping combat probes on grid and getting a warp-to-zero on you within 30s anyway. So you want to make sure it was a Good Plan before you dropped the dread.
Secondly, your scan res is <24mm which is about as big as most people's gonads around here. This means you have about 24s to lock a BS with two scripted SeBo's. Given your DPS, it will take you 50s to knock over most BS solo, so you get to kill at most 4-5 BS in any sige cycle, at most.
Yes, you would be doing this as part of a fleet but you are dropping 2-3B in dread to eliminate 1Bn in enemy BS - must more effective to turn up in a logi or Falcon.
This would become more effective in numbers (like anythig in EVE aside from gas mining) where you could drop a half dozen sniper dreads at 250km and instapop BS's every 10s. But thats only double the effectiveness of deploying 120M sniper Tornados.
Totally unfeasible. The skilful employer of men will employ the wise man, the brave man, the covetous man, and the stupid man. Sun Tzu

The narwhal kb link explains what you are suppose to do with it:
1. Inside a WH: no hot drops to kill you 2. Long web loki killing opponent velocity to nothing, since it isn't stacking penalized
MASSIVE DPS VIA DREADS: Win.
As people use Dreads to force capital escalations in wormholes already, there is quite a few of them in holes and they could prove to be a nasty asset for defence fleets especially.
Using them in K-space is a lot trickier due to lack of any mobility. |

In or out of w-space?
Last time I looked it up there was a very rare class of wormhole which might exist which might let you stuff a super in a C5 or C6. Yet to happen. Kinda like the hisec-C4 wormhole I haven't yet seen in-game in over 2 years of wormhole dwelling.
