Hello. I just started playing about a week ago, and now I'm interested in manufacturing things from the ore I mine (instead of just selling it).
So here is my questions: What BPO's should I get? Should I start with a frigate BPO or should I get some kind of ammo (hybrid, don't think missiles sell that well in Gallente space ).
Is there anywhere else I can get BPO's other than the Market?
Thanks.

Missiles may sell better than you expect...
It all depends on what is going on in the area where you want to set up shop. The best places to make isk from production are systems with multiple level 3 and 4 agents. You may actually do pretty well selling torpedoes to lv 4 mission runners in gallente space, as the items are likely not seeded, and most 'hardcore' mission runners are flying missile ships.
It all really depends on where you are and what is in demand. -=^=-

You might be able to find a BPO via a Contract, but the market is the best way to get them without being tricked. You can only sell BPC via the Contract System, so watch what you buy, because it might be listed as a original but its a copy.
There is no best item to produce, you can make money from selling almost anything, just depends what its worth in resources and what it actually will sell for.

I was in your shoes about 4 months ago. Honestly I'd avoid ship bp's like the plague. There's very little profit margin in ships, and most of them take high-end minerals you'll have to buy, which will further decrease your profits.
Hybrid ammo is a good way to go, as it's high-volume, and people won't travel more than one jump to buy it, so your prices don't have to be the rock-bottom to get it to sell.
Villore is a popular lvl 3 mission hub in Essence, you could probably sell ammo fairly well there. Generally speaking Iridium and Anti-matter have the highest volumes. I'd go with medium and large for Villore, although smalls sell well everywhere.
Good luck! William McC racken

Production Efficiency 5 is the most important skill.
When you info a blue print the figures under perfect column, are the PE5 figures.
For selling items PE5 is a MUST!
There is a market skill that reduces the Broker fee when selling on the market as well, this is handy to have as well (PE 5 more so though)
a BPO off the market has got no research on it, Material Effciency (ME) reduces mineral usage, so saves you isk, gives you a larger margin for profit. It isnt needed, but it does help.
Thing to remember is that BPOs are sold by NPC sellers and the prices are set by base mineral cost x 10 (ish), so no matter which BPO you buy, you can re-sell it on for 1 isk cheaper so buying a "bad" BPO is just time wasted, you wont really lose any money.
To get your feet wet with ships look for an "incursus" BPO, they only need Tritanium, Pyerite, Mexallon and Isogen to build, so can be built mining on your own in any system with omber or kernite, saves you buying the valuable minerals (zydrine, megacite).
They are the gallente Tier 3 frigate, are popular with new players and PvP players a like so "should" sell well.
Dont forget to factor in your mineral costs, if an item sells for 200,000 isk, but you are using 210,000isk worth of minerals you arent making money.
Also when buying BPOs they are cheaper to buy in the faction space that makes that blueprint. So gallente ships in gallente space (essense region), projectile stuff in minmatar space (pator system (forgot the region name)), etc etc
if you want a punisher BPO, it is going to be cheaper in amarr space, rather than caldari space..
Manufacturing is good fun once you get into it and find a market, it also keeps making you money when you are logged off, which is nice to log in and have a larger wallet than what you logged with. :) Good luck. :)

Edited by: Repentant Sinner on 18/04/2007 20:48:21 Easy Target gives some good advice. I'd advise against a BPO right now. Usually at the lower skill levels you can't compete financially when both your skills and the BP ME/PE are low. It will take about a month to research a BPO up to decent lvls, IF you have the skills.
I'd buy a BPC through the contract system, and look for an ME of 20 or so to start. You might consider ammunition, since it gets used up faster (hopefully) that a ship. I'd try anti-matter hybrid charges in Gallente space, they sell pretty well. The Incursus would also be a good frigate to try. The starting miners seem to like the Imicus.
My first BPC was for a Rifter, 30 runs at 25 ME, I think. After that I bought a BPO and ran it to 30/15.Have had that BPO a looong time.
Also keep in mind that it takes about a day to turn out 100,000 rounds. Frigates are much faster to make.
Good luck.

Lots of good advice. Thank you all!
I'm going to get my mining barge then I'm going to concentrate on my Manufacturing skills.
Perhaps I should buy some cheap BOP's (ammo and stuff) (as my money premitts), and start researching it.
Again thank you for all your good advice.

There are some not so expensives BPO to try. You dont need to choose one, maybe 3-4 will be better. Diferent products will need diferent tatics to sell or produce, with multiples BPo you will know better what is a production/trade isssue and what is a particularity from a givem product. Production can be a bit hard in the start but is a very profitable carrer.

All good advice so far but just to add one more thought.
When I started manufacturing - was it really almost 2 years ago! .... - I started with a shuttle bpo. Not because I expected to make any money out of it - just as well because I didn't! - but to see how the manufacturing and sales systems worked. Cheap to buy, easy to produce and no great loss if I decided manufacturing wasn't for me.
Recently bought component and ship bpc's and built myself an Amarr Freighter so the losses didn't put me off
Just a random thought.

Get BPOs that dont cost much and they you can mine the stuff yourself. Ships require vast amount of minerals and some minerals you wont have access to yet.
I would pick consumables to produce like ammo, guns, missles, lasers etc etc which are small easy to produce and need to be replaced frenquently.

Pretty much agree with everyone here on where to start. Ammunition and Charges are a fantastic place to start, and to move on from there, look into frigates and cruisers. You can sell these ships in spaces that border on low sec, because pirates will be buying them to replace their losses, as will folks who have lost their ships to pirates

Ammo is a great place to start. Find a somewhat undeveloped region and start researching. There are alot of backwater systems where you can make decent money selling ammo.
