Either this char is bought of e-bay or the pilot is just really, really stupid. I can understand you dont know how to fit your ship for optimal performance - but a blaster on a raven? and a civillian armor rep ? lol ^^

i saw a 1 month old player in a machariel today, he came SO close to dieing it was unreal...went down at sorta, neutron thorax vs newbie ratter caracal speeds...hahaha. I havent done the sums but im pretty certain its impossible for him to have the skills ot fly the ship and fit large guns in the time hes been in the game.
Oh well, we'll gank him another time

If its a young character theyre most likely just selling GTCs which CCP doesnt mind. Older characters acting like complete numpties on the otherhand are almost certainly ebayers and especially deserve a good ganking.

Recently have been seeing alot younger players in bigger ships, maybe some are ebay maybe not.
I think the increased starting kills with Revelations has impact. As revelations characters can start with average if not above average support skills for a frigate. Then neglect those skills as they move into cruiser and BS. I believe missions pay more these days.
Not to patronise anyone, but in my first month i made dam sure I had everything working like it should becasue if I lost that ship I knew it would endless hours of missioning etc to replace it.

Its like they are powerlevelling. Only just really...really...really badly.
(Artillery on a shield-tanked brutix anyone?)
Don't know about anyone else, but when I first started I actually read the descriptions of ships before I bought them, and noticed '% bonus to <weapon type> per level of <skill to fly ship>' and thought to myself..'Hey, these things obviously go together'
Eve has a steep learning curve, and I almost think that they are doing a disservice to new folks by providing such a leg up into areas where they should grow into after a few weeks of playing.

To be honest, not every player that's "new" fits their ships stupidly.
I get underestimated for my character age all the time (Jan 3 07?). The pirates usually pay for it too. I've spec'ed my character carefully, and if I'm in a ship, I'm using the overwhelming majority of my SP to fly it.
Pretty well constantly, the older players have told me that what I'm about to do is impossible: only for me to do it. Older players tend to be scared to lose a ship to try out a fitting, or to engage someone that's older than them. They're scared to rat (in 0.0) in anything less than a Battleship.
For crying out loud, it's *EASY* to take triple 1.5 spawns in a cruiser, even with < 1.5M SP. I could probably rat triple 1.8's in a cruiser now. And fighting someone "older", with better skills, and a better ship, is not all that hard - just stack the battlefield in your favor.

If you mean older characters... I've got two old (1 year+) characters that i rat in using Drakes, Hurricanes, Arbitrator (if you can believe it) and even a Wolf (witch is a frig btw) to rat in one character I've got BS 5 and yet I don't even fly a BS! and the other I don't even have the BS skill despite having two race of cruiser to 4. __________________________________ Stay still! We all wish we were as brilliant as yourself.
Try soloing a Mega in a Vexor with only 230k SP, or a Geddon, or a Ferox. Of course it's impossible now with the new characters having huge skillpoints from the start, but the point is that Eve is one of the few games where ultra-noob (SP wise) characters can kill much older characters given enough imagination and the right setups.
Because I said so...

Caldari -> Military -> Special Ops.
You'll be in a raven in less than two weeks (cruiser IV will take 6 days), and due to the nature of the rest of your skills - you'd only be able to fit the sorta junk on it that you see in your kill mail.

Just because they are flying with a stupid set up, does not necessarily mean they are ebayers.
Take me for instance, not believing in the test server (screw a test server that requires separate clients in separate folders) I have a hobby of using idiotic cruiser set ups to pvp. Yes, it is fun, you should try it.
Also, could be a nub who can't set up a ship. I kill those daily.

Never underestimate the power of people to be bad at things. Now true enough, I'm a fairly new player, but I consult older players, the forums, the attributes and bonuses on a ship. I mean it's not like you have to use some sort of divination to figure out caldari are shield tankers.
This all boils down to my personal definition of a newb versus a n00b...
newb n.: A player who is new, or lacking in experience of a game, yet has an expressed desire to improve.
n00b n.: These troglodytes are thought to have evolved from shellfish. They usually have an ego that far out-strips their abilities, and usually get defensive & belligerent when beaten, or worse, given advice.

Because people who can afford and fly elite ships, yet show absolutely no skills... I've run into some of these guys. I have **** for skills (main is a miner/industrialist and this character is a relatively young character) and even I know enough about fitting to not fly some of these idiot machines.
But it doesn't actually bother me. I actually find it amusing. If you buy characters you can't use properly, chances are you've blown your money. And while I don't pirate, I don't care if someone's short-cut blew up in their face, either.
