So in Eve we have the consensual PvP zone (0.0), the PvP-with-traveller/defender-advantage zone (lowsec), and the zero risk zone (highsec), and people can choose where they want to be. Turning highsec into a PvP zone will just empty it.

Of course pvp is consensual. Nobody forces you to undock. I know that there are people who play Eve who for various reasons never do undock.
By undocking you accept the terms and conditions of whatever security area you happen to be in. All the security rating does is provide the terms and conditions that apply to pvp.
Hence, flying around in Eve is consent to combat. Even if you suck at it like I do.

You don't have to stand and fight. There are loads of ways to avoid combat - from WtZ and safespots through to to WCS.
The 'Consensual PvP' movement is simply a gaggle of whingers that don't want anybody else to be able to interfere with their trading game. They would be better off with Transport Tycoon and a copy of MSN messenger.

Yeh, its bad for your health otherwise?
Anyone want a job for ISK? Hiring people to read the forums for me (to pass me on all those hidden gems of borderline exploits that people post about while drunk, and that have potential to make you rich beyond reason).
For various reasons, i will not be paying for your healthcare (the insurance company person looked at me in a funny way, then burst out laughing after i mentioned Eve forums ...)

PvP is consensual in EVE in the same way that it's consensual in Counter Strike. That is, no-one forces you to turn on your computer and log in. But once you do that, you've consented.......... --------

a whinge (rhymes with hinge) and whine (rhymes with wine) are entirely different, despite meaning more or less the same thing. although the former appears to be uniquely British.
as your mastery of english increases you'll discover that a weiner is different again. as are a window, a wardrobe and a wellington. isn't language a beautiful fing?

Why are you soooo afraid of carebear? I love the mining, trading, buy/sell, hauling, day trading, manufacturing and yes most of all I love to chat. Last time I check carebear community is pretty strong. Trust me on this, it is not fun watching some troll humpin your avatar's legs in WoW. Did you see the female Ranger's dance in Guild Wars?--oh too bad.. Give us freedom in high sec, I guranteed you will have a robust community. Oh by the way Benji, if we meet again try not stare at me.. making comments like, "wow, you a real girl" doesn't get you any point.. mister IQ man.

Sigh. I don't think anyone is "afraid" of carebears. I know the carebear community is strong, I actually follow that path myself. But I know that in this game, the path of the carebear is lined with pvpers waiting for an easy target. That is the real challenge.
Back in the day, I dodged m0o, I helped escort haulers through CA gatecamps (/me raises a toast to the memory of Shinra, cheers guys!), I sometimes hauled ammo on contract for 30+ jumps from Empire to deep 0.0 in the days before POS's. Sometimes I would jump into gatecamps just to sacrifice a very cheap clone while someone snuck a load of named goods to Empire.
I've ninja-mined lowsec space dodging Samirol (is he still around) and Ore Mongers, lost dozens of ships (at least) to protect miners, and in my long series of accounts I've probably mined in every npc sovereignty.
But in the end, when I run my own corp, I still pod every new player who joins, just so they experience it. (and yes I do warn them beforehand) Because in Eve, you can be a carebear, but risk aversion is not good in Eve particularly for carebears. When you accept that mantle, you accept the target that goes with it, and the knowledge that you will never be able to adequately defend yourself-- you need to rely on others, who in turn rely on your skills since they are off training that Large Energy Turret to 5 and figuring out how the latest patch affects balance in ship loadouts.
Believe me, sometimes being a dedicated carebear is something that should bring high respect because of the sacrifices it entails. But in Eve it also means that you make those sacrifices. I don't see people being afraid of carebears. We are seen as prey. What concerns people is a world full of nothing but prey, because then the predators become fat and lazy and there is nothing to separate the competent from the incompetent.
