I'd be very surprised if it wasn't up to the job - depending on what EVE options you want to use. My laptop is 1.6GHz with 1Gb of RAM with a 4 year old graphics card, and it handles it OK - as long as I stick to the lowest resolution of EVE. Dell laptops - mine is Dell - for around ú400 seem to have better or equal specs to mine.

Well if you want to throw in a few more bucks you could get this http://www.alienware.co.uk/product_detail_pages/Area-51_m5550/area-51m_overview.aspx?SysCode=PC-EU-LT-A51M5550&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT
and again this one it just 8-9 euro out of your stated price range, but it's nice http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspn_e1505?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

My work laptop (Dell Latitude D620) runs EVE, albeit not very well. Its a 1.86 Core 2 Duo with 2GB of RAM. The graphics card is the crappiest available....integrated Intel Graphics Chip (pure junk for EVE). So ships and explosions are rendered ok but stations look terrible...also running missions in a deadspace complex with lots of structures and gas clouds really slows it down unfortunately.
Overall tho its still playable so I cant complain. ----------------------------------------- Don't submit to stupid rules Be yourself and not a fool Don't accept average habits Open your heart and push the limits |

I have a 1GB RAM, 100GB HD, and 1.79 GHz laptop and I do everything from small group combat to fleet engagements. That being said, I paid about a grand for it, but it works great .

I run an Dell inspiron 6400 with X1300 mobility whatever gfx card, and it runs Eve just fine. Complexes etc and really crammed missions will lag it up somewhat, but it's mostly resolved by just turning the camera towards empty space.
I wouldn't use it for fleet battles though, probably. I don't know how much it goes for, if ú500 is enough, but you should aim for a decent low-spec 3d-card to go with it instead of the intel crap that usually comes with it.

All I have to add is this:
When buying a laptop, remember that you can not upgrade it like a regular desktop PC. That said I would splurge a little on the aspects that can not be upgraded, i.e. the video card, processor, MB of the laptop. You can however upgrade (swap out for more) the RAM and HD. When purchasing a laptop the best places to save money are RAM and HD. Usually the RAM and HD can be purchased outside of the retailer for a lot less than from say Dell/Mac and you can find better RAM/HD.
Points to remember about laptops:
1. You can not upgrade the video card, MB, Processor. 2. Purchase extra RAM/HD from a different place (other than the retailer) for cheaper prices. 3. Don't forget EVE is about to get an upgrade in graphics and this might increase the minimum requirements.
Maybe that will help you decide
