So, yes I count 475 dps + a load of heavy nosferatu as 'sensible'.
Anyone else find it amusing that '500dps isn't all that great' should be mentioned by a gallente pilot, in a 'nerf gallente' discussion?

I really tried to search Tuxford's graphs on Tier 1 and 2 BS' damage but unfortunately I couldn't find it for you. If you haven't seen it, I can tell you that Raven was on top. I would appreciate a link if someone manages to find it.
When it comes to missiles, the amount on paper is always less than for guns, but the actual performance is quite on par. Missiles always hit, and Raven can freely choose and switch it's damage type. The average damage dealt after resistances and tracking are accounted for, therefore, is very competitive indeed.
In addition launchers consume no cap, providing shield tanking with more sustenance aswell as allowing them to keep launching when nossed to zero. Plus they also do huge burst damage, which on short ranges yields the same benefits as alpha damage.
Obviously the drawback is the complete lack of long range, but that's besides the point since Caldari do have rails, and blasters are hardly useful far away either. In fact, for short range weapons, all missiles have quite the range.
As for Gallente being overpowered: some strategies may be exceptionally good, but overall Gallente is pretty balanced. And when it comes to blasters, I would even argue they could be better.
It's easy to say that drones are great when combined with nos, but try using hybrids that can rarely be sustained with peak recharge and still have cap left for propulsion and tanking. And many times people are run over by drone ships because they fail in piloting. And that's not the fault of the ships, but the pilots.
If you ignore nos, I'd definitely put Minmatar in my favoured spot right now. And they can use nos a lot, too. ---
